The report of Chief Engineer Gaby |, io the Ortario Hydro Electric Comâ€" mission for the nine months ending Soptember 30th, is an encouraging accument. It shows that not . only vave the various municipalities been able to pay their maintenance and sinking fund charges, but that â€" they | bave been able in every case to . aC cumulate substantial surpluses . as voll, ranging from ten to fiftyâ€"six | per cent. on the maintenance charges. Port Arthur has a surplus of 50 per cont., Ottawa of 26 per cent., Lonâ€" dom of 20 per cent., Torouto of 25 yor cent., Berlin of 20 per cent., Cuelph of 30 per cent., Stratford . of 30 per cent., St. ‘Thomas of 45 per cont., Waterloo of 50 , pe°T cent., alt of 25 per cent., Ingersoll _ of 40 per cent., Penetang of 45 _ per cont., Weston of 35 per cent. _ Even te village of Baden, which anly akes twentyâ€"five horseâ€"power, has a sirplus of 35 per cent. In view of the fact that a uniform ~stem of accounting is in operation nmong the municipalities _ using nvdro power the comparisons of suiâ€" ulus earnings might be thought to. inirly reflect the efficiency of the manâ€" ~zement of the various plants. There is. however, a great diversity _ of conditions under which the various piants are operated, which must â€" bo taken into account, such as differences n the original cost of the power to the municipalities, the rates at which i+ is sold, and the local market | for rower. _ Such circumstances â€" render ‘ntelligent comparison difficult. ‘The Showing, bowever, is a most sulisfactory one, and it is _ to he wl# be made kmnown on application Meekly aowspaper, published @Â¥ery +~ped that it may â€"lead to â€"an ezrly] yeneral reduction in the â€" rates . for ridro power throughout the . provâ€" Canadians are learning their | les «ons very slowly. Extravagance is a abit which, once acquired, is difficult t eliminate. With immigration â€" deâ€" cining 3 per cemt. in August, 21 per ~nt. in September, and even more in wtober, some people fnight â€" have taken warning. The declining customs ‘nd excise receipts read the samel »sson. The low prices on the stock wuarket and the high prices of mort gage loans emphasized it. And _ yet Canadians went on buying high priced | goods for consumption just as in thc‘ faurâ€"year boom period of 1908â€"1912. ‘This is proven by the October inâ€" ex numvjer of the Department ol1 Labor, comments the Canadian Cour-‘ ier._ Prices of the commodities . we consume and wear rose stcadily. The index number for October, 1912, was 135; it remained pretty steady during the year, and in Septembet, 1913, was 136. But in October it rose to 136.8, when, by all the rules of ecoâ€" nomy, it should have declined. Meats, eggs, milk, butter, coal, fruits _ and rotatoes all showed increases. Canada must learn â€" to _ practica economy. We are paying 37 per cent more for what we eat and wear ‘han we did in the period 1890 _ to If you are troubled with weak, tired | feelings, headache, backache, bearing | down sensations, bladder weakness, consâ€" tipation, catarrhal conditions, pain in the sides regularly or irregularly, bloating . or unnatural enlargements, sense of falling or misplacement of internal organs, | nervousness, desire to cry, pall:iutiou.‘ hbot flashes, dark rings under the eyes, | or a loss of interest in life, I invite you to write and ask for my simple method of home treatment, with tem days‘ trial entirely free and postpaid, also references to Canadian ladies who gladly tell how | they have _rega.isled he.l}h, a“lrenglh.:nd I A woman‘s MEssact to womeEn. i:'.;ipa"..'e‘..‘. by this method.
