Directors‘ Report for the Year 1912 painful disease cured after the patient had suffered for years by a fow bottlies of SANOL Assurance Company. Causes Immense Enthusiasm "®= i. this Another speaker mentioned the fact that the Dominion Life had _ now grown to a _ considerable size, and that, while it was not the â€" largest Company in Canada, it must be reâ€" membered that other things _ than mere bulk must be taken in judging of the merits of any financial instituâ€" tion. Strength, earning power, ecoâ€" nomy, and, above all, . actual reâ€" sults, were the real tests. What proâ€" tection was a Company _ affording, and what profits was it capable . of paying to each _ individual policyâ€" holder? He had looked into the matâ€" ter carciully, and was thoroughly conâ€" vinced that the Dominion Life â€" had not an equal in Canada. The various speakers refetred to the rapid advancement made by the Company, and the Management _ re ceived many and _ wellâ€"deserved comâ€" pliments on the efficient manner in which the Company‘s affairs were be ing cond@cted. The marked increase in the business written showed that the Dominion _ Life was becoming widely known and bad forced its way by very strength of merit into popâ€" ular favor. One speaket drew attenâ€" tion to the fact that the Dominion Life had the highest interest â€" rate, the lightest death rate, and _ lowest proportional expense rate of any wellâ€" established company in Canada. Thest rates were the most important facâ€" tors in producing profits for policyâ€" holders. He asked if it was any wonder that the Dominion Life was making such vnexcelled returns _ to Policyholdersâ€"returns _ which _ were steadily enhancing the popularity of the Company, and attracting the atâ€" tention of the insuring public to its many points of excellence. The Medical Referee, Dr. A. F. Baumann, then presented the report of the Medical Department. He had prepared an analysis of the mortality |ior the year, showing that the Comâ€" ‘pany had saved 70 per cent. of the ’loss expected on the basis of the Gov: Iernment. Tables. ‘"‘When it is considâ€" eted,"" said the Doctor, "that the Do :minion Life has been in existence for nearly a quarter of a century, we |can truly say that this is indeed a lrematknble showing.s Where, 1 â€" ask you, can you find another company of half our age, with such a favorable [death rate? But the Medical Referees do not lay sole cla‘im to the credit !l‘or this splendid showing. We \beâ€" lieve that a great deal of praise is due to the agents for the discriminaâ€" tion they have exercised in the apâ€" plications they have submitted to the Company. We, are also cf the opinâ€" inn that the Management is to be. rongratulated for having built up ; Campany, the sterling record of which attracts the best »lass of insurance. We afirm that the policyholders | are: {ortunate in having _ thsit insurance . placed in a Company that is buihting: on the strongest of bases an1 firmest of foundations "‘ Other speakers werel P. H. Sims, A. J. Andrews, _ Joh | Balfour, P. E. Shantz, Senator Mcâ€" Mullen, F. Halstead, J. B. Hall, M. M. Bricker, aad F. Shantz. The failacy that a high interest rate must necessarily be _ associated with insecurity, was clearly ~pointed out. The Dominion Life had not one insecure or speculative asset. Its inâ€" vestments had been approved _ many times by the Government. The fact of the matter was that the Dominion Life had recognized early the tremâ€" Mr. Milliard dealt with the report in detail, and emphasized the remarkâ€" ably fine showing the Company had made durinz the. past vear. All the Directors now retire, _ and all are eligible for reâ€"election, _ nine as Shareholders‘ Directors and five as Policyholders‘ Directors. THOS. MILLIARD, President. Waterlco, Feb. 10th, 1913. We regret to have to record the teâ€" moval by death of one of the charter members of the Board of _ Directors, the late Walter Wells, LD.S., whose laithful services were much appreciatâ€" ed by his fellow members, and were recognized by a sultable resolution adâ€" opted by the Board at its April meetâ€" ing.
