Indeed her preâ€" sent population demands . that she withdraw from the County and _ asâ€" sume the larger responsibilities‘ inciâ€" dent to & city: Whether this will be done by an Order in Council or by a special Act of _ Parliament is â€"a matter to be decided by : our Town Council. ~When, however," such | a disâ€" tinction has been granted to ‘us, the event should be celebrated in a manâ€" ner befitting a place of our: size and importance. f We have now _ had Hydro Electric power for aâ€"little over one‘ year, sufâ€" ficientâ€"to give it a fair test, and M results so far have been most pn% ing.. Rates have been .reduced and the service has been <superior to anyâ€" thing we have heretofore experienced. Notwithstanding this reduction â€"~ in the rates and the improvement in the service, the Light Commission â€" have been able to pay into the _ Town ‘Treasury out of theirâ€"net profits a sufficient sum to reduce our tax rate by one mill. â€" The year J912 will be marked <by mary municipal undertakings . of large proportions; money byâ€"laws have just been passed for the . expeniditure ~ of $100,000 on the waterworks system, and some $20,000 on other. public en terprises. â€" Municipal ownership â€" â€" of public utilities has been a pronounced success in Berlin and has attracted the attention of and has been. comâ€" mented on by the outsidé press. .
