That the Board cf Works take the advice of the Town Solicitors | and abate the nuisance complained of by the Park Board and tha Board _ of Health by tearing up such connections with the Victoria and Wilmot street storm drain as are causing the polluâ€" tion of Victoria Park Lake. That the plans submitted by Archiâ€" tect Cowan for the proposed Isolation Hospital _ be adopted ani tenders callec for to be in by the 18th inst. That a byâ€"law te passed authorizing the issue of debentures for the sum of $10,000 for the Park Board . a1 pet their requisition. â€"That no action be taken on th» reâ€" quest of the Park Board for financial assistance pending the sale of debcnâ€" tures. The Town Solicitors reported _ to the Town Council jas follows regardâ€". ing the cligibility <of cortain High School Trustees:â€"‘"We find that unâ€" der the present High School _ Act passed April 13th, the number _ of trustees is 8, three appointed by County Council, three by the Town Council, _ one by the Public School Board, _ and one by the Separate School Board, and with reference to the trustees at present holding office and residing out of the High Schoot district, we think it would, be. proper and courtcous to call their attention to the law as it now is, and to the change in the law since they were apâ€" pointed, and to the provision of Sect. 58 of the High School Act, imposing a penalty upon a trustece who . sits or votes at any mecting _ of the Board while disqualified. _ Under the Act we thiirs that the course _ for them to pursue would be to _ resign their positions and thereafter the, vaâ€" cancies can be filled upon the first opportunity. We haw no idea . why the law was changed, but it has been, and it is quite evident that _ under the present Act persons not residing in the High School District are disâ€" qualified, South East . The correct figur‘s . aroâ€" The tenders for the proposed . new Isolation Hospital, the _ plans _ for which were adopted by the Board of Mealth and a special committee _ of the Town Council, were opened _ by the Finance Committec on Monday evening, and while the figures . were not given out, it is understood that the lowest tenkers for the various trades amounted _ to _ ncearly $8,600. This amount does not include the furâ€" nishings nccessary for an institution of this kind. The plans were considered at _ conâ€" giderable Jengih by the committce. One of the strongest arguments against their adoption was the fact that the proposed hospital provided about the same accommodation _ as the General Hospital, and at the same time would not be used by more than two or three patients _ at _ a time unless there was an â€" epidemic, which is a rare occurrence in _ Bérâ€" Hn. It is not proposed to allow the matter to drop, but rather it is exâ€" pected that the matter will be again taken up in the spring at the latest, with a view to getting accommodaâ€" tion for scarlet fever, diphtheria and smallpox cases. The atâ€" tion will te heard at the December sessions of the High Court in Bartie. Absalom _ Merner, son of the late Serator Merncr, is suing Valentine Ratz, a member at present of th: Scnate, for $1,400, which he alleges he earned in securing Senator Ratz‘ appointiment to the Scnate. "Lhe remarkable thing is that Mr. Merner is a Conscrvative, and that he should bave â€"any influence in seâ€" curing the appointment of a Literâ€" al Senator is surprising. Got Father to Resign. In his statement of claim the plain tif civides his services. Part _ of thrm are alleged to have been the seâ€" curing of his father‘s resignation. As a immatter of fact, Senator Merner did resign. He became bankrupt on Juâ€" ly 15th, 1908, thereby losing _ his Senatorship anyway. Another remarkable feature of it is that tho plaintiff alleges that _ an agroement was cntered into whereby the Senator‘s widow was to receive $1,000 annually so long as she _ or Senator Ratz lives. A Senator‘s inâ€" demn‘ty being only $2,500° a year, the sum to be paid to the widow was a large one. The case recalls the Smart vs. Daâ€" mna case hcard in Brockville som> years ago, in .olviug _ a sum said to have been p:omised a retiring shoriff by his stetessor. * Await the Defence. The defendant‘s statemcnt in this case, which has not besn filed yet, is awaited with much interest. Valontine Ratz, formerly member for North Middlesex, is 60 years old ind a lumberman. He was elected to the Commons in 1896, defeated in 1900, and _ rxelected in 1904. _ He was not elected in 1908, th> nominâ€" ation going io Alex W. Smith. Famvel Merper, the late Serator, was of Swiss parcntage. _ He was for ei_hteen years reeve of New.Hamâ€" burg. _ He representcd South Waterâ€" loo in the Commons from 1877 to 1882, and culered the _ Sera‘ec in 1887. When the appointment of _ Mr. Rat: as his successor was made this year some surprise was expressed Lecause Xr. Ratz came from atrother riding. It is known that Senator Ratz will make a pointâ€"blank derial of Mr. Mernet‘s statements. He thinks . the case may never be prosecut:d. Notbing in the Story. s Senator Ratz was called up _ by longâ€"distance telephone in regard _ to the claims of Mr. Merncr. Mr. Ratz was very positive in is statemeni that there was pothing in Mr. Merâ€" nor‘s story. _ At the same time, he did not want to ruch into priat with asked. â€" "O, _ well. She says: â€""We first used Zamâ€"Buk for â€" cuts and bruises, etc., and found it so satâ€" isfactory that my husband started usâ€" Ing it for a chronic sore. For a long time he had been bothered with an old sore on his leg, and had + used various preparations, yet nothing had permanently cured it. CURE THAT OBSTINATE SORE "It was only a matter of a short time before Zamâ€"Buk had thoroughly cleansed the sore of all foul matter and healing commenced. It is _ now some months since the _ sore was completely closed, and there is no likelihood of it breaking out again. ‘‘Since then my baby} cighteen monâ€" ths old, has been cured of â€" eczema on the scalpâ€"by Zamâ€"Buk. This ecâ€" zema came in red pimples, and _ if rubbed or scratched, formed _ into sores. The child was very} fretful from the irritation of the scalp, but whenever Zamâ€"Buk was applied _ it seemed to bring the greatest <rcliel. Frequent applications were effective in clearing all traces of the disease from, the baby‘s scalp in a â€" short pace of time.
