Cressman., The Mayor read the resolution subâ€" mitted by the Board of Trado in reâ€" gard â€" to Valentine & Martin, He stated that a committee interviewed Mr. Valentine who was willing _ to purchase the woollen mHis property if he could come to an agreement with Mr. Moriey, After considerabic discussion a committee was appointed comprising â€" Messrs. Weichel, O‘Donâ€" nell and the Mayor to interview Mr. Morley and Mr. Valentine with _ a view to having them to come to an agreement. e MoOmttss A letter was rece@edfirom Mr. J. E. Seagram asking that he be grantâ€" ed the right to erecb two poles on King St. No action was taken. C. H. Bechtel, the secretary _ of Bechtels, Ltd., Waterloo, recently reâ€" signed his position to accept a tempâ€" ting offcer in Fernic, B. C. This posiâ€" tion is the managership of the Fernic Brick Co. This plant was erected in its entitrety by Bechtels, Ltd., _ last year, and was the only factory that escaped the disastrous fire. . Mr. C. H. Bochtel produced a very favorable impression on the westerners at the time of the plant‘s crection and | the urgent necessity of having | a firstâ€" class manager to cater to the present cxtensive building wants of the resurâ€" recting city was the incentive to the offor. _ Mr. Bechtel leaves numerous friends in Berlin, Waterloo and Galt with regret, but is cxceedingly optimâ€" istic as fo â€" possibilities in _ British Columbia. He leaves for Fernic some time this month. _ Dr. Noecker addressed the â€" Council iand suggested that a Mr. Levi who is suffering from an almest incurable discase and is a charg® upon the town be removed to Toronto where a specialist | would #reat â€" him. . The Council concurred in the opinion of Dr. * occker and decided to send Mr. Levi to Toronto for treatment at a cost of $1.90 a week. An Indemn‘ty Accident | Insurauce policy for the firemen was _ placed with Mr. A. K. Cressman., Four rinks of Preston curters playâ€" ed at the Watcrloo rink Monday eveâ€" ning and were defeated by the local curlets by 14 shots. Mr. Frank Good addressed _ the Council in regard to the unsatisfacâ€" tory condition of the weigh scales. le stated that the scales did not weigh properly and asked that the Council investigate. Councillor Sandâ€" erson stated that he examined . the scales & nuimber ol times and _ found the same to be very unsatisfactory and thought it advisable to purchase new scales. _ He, however, . stated that the Government Inspector would be here .« «.; aud would investigate the matter. It was moved by Counciliors Weiâ€" chel and Suggitt, that Ford S. Kumpi te appointed Clerk and Treasurer and to receive for his services $1,000 a year, this to take effect on or before 1st of April, when the present Clerk resigns, and a new byâ€"law to be preâ€" pared by Mr. A.
