BERLIN‘S EXCELLENT WATER On Wednesday evening Chief How-' all ct the ftre department made a thorough and very satisfactory test ct Berlin‘s water pressure. He had a line or hose attached to the hydrant in front of the tire hall and taken to the top of the be11-tower. Another was stretched to the market building; Under ordinary pressure a stream was thrown thirty feet above the tower, and with direct pressure it reached aheight at between forty and mr feet trom the tower. The stream thrown trom the ground hose was very strong, and could eas- ily. have reached afive-storey build- ing. Two more lines of hose were laid on King street and there was no. depreciation in volume when there was direct pressure; which registered 94 pounds " the waterworks onice. Chief Howard reported to the Fire and Light Committee that the pres- sure was entirely satisfactory. A meeting ot the Fire and Light‘ Committee was held on Wednesday; wen Hg, at which Town Clerk Aletter was authorized to give David Bootl- cr one month's notice to vacate the tire hall in order that it may he re- modelled for the accommodation of the department. The despatch says: The richest vein ot the district - found ttrday on University property. The University mine borders on the rich Foster property. A Very rich vein on the Foster was discovered lately, which led directly into the University property. Prospecting was started some days ago on the 1mm property, and the Cobalt bloom and nickel ore gave place to a wonderful- ly rich vein of pure native silver. The silver is not mixed with ore, but is absolutely pure. The average width is fwe inches, and it has already been traced over lhree hundred loot. The We Trust Doctors ore is the richest Ind purest, seen in the district, and gives promise ot ex- tending the whole length of theme- perty. Even it it stops at 300 feet it will make this property one of the best in the district. There is great excitement over the discovery.
