‘ NEDDING PiNCS . . June Session of Berlin Town Council. Routine Business Transacted. Probably never in the history of Berlin did any town council endeavor to transact municipal business amid greater excitement than the regular June session of this year‘s council. The excitement was not by any means in the council chamber, but it was all around on the outside. It was the celebration of the proclama&â€" toin of peace in South Africa, and although later than in most other places, it was not the less enthusâ€" fastic, _ There was the shouting of m thousand voices, the playing of the patriotic tunes by the 29th Reg‘t Band, the crackling of the blazing bonfire, the firing of volleys by A. and F. Companies, as well as fireâ€" works, and later the fierce wind and thunder storm; all this was in proâ€" gress as the comncil transacted the business before them. QOutside of passing a resolution of condolence to the bereaved family of the late Hugo Kranz, the business was of a decidedly routine character. Mayor Eden was in the chair, and Ald‘s Braun, Honsberger, _ Grosz, Collard, Vogt, Weber, Bricker, and Cochrane were in their places. Ald. Kranz was the only absentee. The minutes of the previous meetâ€" ing were read and confirmed, after which the Mayor read the financial statement for the month showing the receipts to be $23,298.45, and the exâ€" penditures $30,356.77. The following communications were then read: From the Daily Telegraph, ansâ€" wering Mayor Eden‘s objections to smallâ€"pox article in the issue of May 15th From P. H. Arnold position of roadâ€"master From S. A. Brubacher, secretary of the Berlin and Waterloo branch of the Retail Merchant‘s Association of Canada, enclosing the following reâ€" solution: "That the _ Association respectâ€" fully desires to call the attention of your honorable body to the necessity of a complete system of street name signs and numbers on residences, as in our opinion it would greatly facâ€" ilitate to the proper delivery of parâ€" cels, and would be a great convenâ€" ience, not only to ourselves but also to the citizens in general, as well as to stranger visiting our town." From H. C. Hilbotn, cement walk in front of on Church street. _ From the Canadian Rubber Co wrot«e regarding hose. â€" From Aug. Poddam, askirx re‘eased from frontage fax on oria street drain. â€" He says he and ill in health. From â€" Engineer Davis reporting that $120 was to be charged to the Berlin & Waterloo St. Railway Co. for gravel for street between Scott and Francis street. That we are not unmindful of the great serâ€" vice he rendered us duting the years of his public lite in the capacity of Cletk, Mayor, Member of the council, of the Board of Trade and member the Dominion Parliament. That by his wise council and fervent zeal in furthering our interests, he won the esteem and admiration of all classes of the community and his name will be handed down as an inspiration to those who shall follow him in the public service. . An Allâ€"wise God has however deemed it best to translate him to a higher sphere and to this decree we meekly bow, knowing that He, who knoweth all things, does all things well. s Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolation be forwarded to the bereaved family and to our esâ€" teemed coâ€"worker, Ald.
