The Fool and His Money THE ONTARIO HOUSE THE ONTARIO CCMPANIES!‘ ACT. GBood Progress Made With Rouâ€" _tineg Work Manday Afternoon. Wen, Mr. Stratton‘s Bill Considered n‘ Comuitteeâ€"Col. Matheson Moves an . Amendment to Clause 3 of the Billâ€"The Debate on the Beâ€" mount Station Address .‘ Resumed. FToronto, March 26.â€"The session of Ethe Legislative Assembly yesterday uifternoon â€" was largely devoted to Foutine work and good progress was amade. ollowing bills were read m \flu To incorporate the Town gsville; respecting the People‘s Life Insurance Co.; to conâ€" Bolidate floating debt of Village of MActon; respecting the City of Brantâ€" ford; to confirm bylaw of York County; respecting the Town of Coâ€" bourg, and to consolidate and amend the â€" Act respecting the Education Department A number of private bills were passed in committce and the followâ€" ing received _ second readings: Reâ€" specting the Town of Fort William; to amend the Act incorporating the Midland _ Land Co.; respecting the "Pown of Port Arthur; respecting the ‘Town of Collingwood and the Crampâ€"Ontario Steel Co; respecting the Subsidiary High Court of the ‘Ancient Order of Foresters. The bill to amend the Supplementâ€" mry Revenue Act was reported from pommittee. _ Hon. Mr. Stratton‘s bill to amend the Ontario â€" Companies‘ Act was sonsidered in committes. â€" Mr. Whitney took exception to the Elause . providing that in cases in which the sharcholders did not reâ€" side in this Province, the annual meetings could be held outside . its within the confines of the Province e» mot. ‘The present bill removed all éoubts on the matter. There was mo ~reason why a company . whose #whareholders were © nonâ€"residents ‘Should be put to the expense of goâ€" ing through the formality of holdâ€" img their annual meetings here. It was desirable to give American capâ€" italists inducements to make inâ€" Westments in Canada. limits. Hom. J. M. Gibson advocatâ€" ed the provision on the ground of its sonvenience â€" and â€" the hardship of requiring men _ living in a distant BState or Province to hold their anâ€" mual meetings here. Hon. Mr. Stratton said that under %omggegg; law, it was doubtful ~in â€" such cases the annual mesetings were required to be held Mr. Crawford said that no adeâ€" quate reasons had been given for the bill and he thought it ought to be withdrawn. * Hon. J. M. Gibson said that the argument that the meetings were beâ€" yond the jurisdiction of the counâ€" try had no weight. There were proâ€" mwisions for the cancellation of the charter in certain cases and also for the making of regular returns. ‘The wourts of the United \Sgtfios‘would give relief if a sharehol resident there had any substantial grievance. Col. Mathsson moved that the first wection of clause 3 of the bill proâ€" widing that the name of a company which had made no returns to the Government for three years might be ®onferred upon another company be struck out. ore Mr, â€" Stratton explained that nuâ€" «merous companies had ceased to exâ€" ‘W#t and that other concerns desired (to assume their names. ‘There was io good reason why this privilege ihould not be granted. _ Gol. Matheson was disposed to r his motion to a vote, but Hon. J. M. Gibson protested against the m‘. of taking a division in so house and the clause was alâ€" Becoming Glasses Donotgwono wearing glassâ€" P Ther sns nvevoming. This m%m no case so true as when people b:fl cheap spoctncles whi ruin their eyes while savâ€" hg:m cents temporarily. The best are none too good for your eyes. Such we ofâ€" fer to you. _ _ King St., BERLIN Towed to stand. The comiuittes o After some further discussion the motion was adopted. _ ‘The report of the Committee â€" of Supply was received and concurred in with the exception of three or four items, which stood over. ‘The Premier, in reply to a quesâ€" tion by Mr. Whitney, denied that the Ontario Government had agreed to aid the Union Stockyards Company by guaranteeing their bonds to the extent of $200,000, as stated in cir cula @. WILMOT TOWNSHIP COUNCIL. TheWilmotTownship Council met at the Tp. Hall Baden on March 18th, 1901...
