At a meeting of the members of "A" Company, 20th Regiment, held on Friâ€" day evening it was decided that efforta be put forth to establish & military n" and company, besdquarters for drili, s*oâ€"ing of arms, and to generaliy advance ti.~ i~terests of the oomp.nx It is also the ini«n‘ion to initall a rifle range on a suitable site. At present the arms are stored in the armory at Galt. This is very intonvenient for the Berlin companies. ‘"A" company is experiencing a growing time and some of our best young men are enrollâ€" ing as members. The establishment of the headquarters propoésed will en tail considerable expense and any aid which may be axtendedâ€"by sitisens inâ€" tereated in matters L would doubtless be appreciated ‘by ‘- memâ€" bers of the company. © ‘The move is a good one and deserves The time is looked forward to" n a olty 2 mill tad to hk March 28, 1901 =â€"Page 3 LOOKING FOR A SITEIN BERLIN Mr. J. C. Dietrich of the fim of Shurly & Dietrich of Galt was in Berâ€" lin on Friday in connection with the new harvest tool factory which his firm is about to establish. Shurly & Dietâ€" rich are already, and have been for years among the largest saw manuâ€" facturers of the Dominion. Their present quarters aie inadequate . for their proposed new industry, nor h«ve they sufficient land to enlarge. â€" They have asked the town to purchase their present factory at cost price and they will erect entirely new premises on another site in Galt. _ Mr. Dietrich says they never received a cent from Galtand all they aeknow is to berecouped for any loss in getting rid of their present factory. It cost them in the neighborhoed of $38000. Goldie & MeCulloch will take it at something |iike $23000. Thus the town would, if |they bought the factory and . sold it | again have to make up about $15000; Namont o acooe o c n LoL. o Jnetebstinoin e epranank Galt is stubbornu and Mr. Dietrich sayd if, either the Council refuses to submit a byâ€"law for the amount, ofr submits a byâ€"law and it is voted down they will locate elsewhere. They would require the same amount from any town to which they go and would \employ 250 hands. They have comâ€" munications from Hamilton andâ€"Cornâ€" wall, and Mr. Districh will visit the latter place at once. Personally . he favors Berlin because he has his home and a farm at Galt which he cou}d still occupy. He is emphatically of the opinion that Galt will not meet his firm‘s wishes and that their removâ€" al is therefore incvitab‘e. He looked at a number of sites in Berlin on Friâ€" day and would prefer one somewhere along the main line of the G.T. R. which could also be reached by a spur from the electric road. House cleaning time is coming on apace, and the thoughts of women are divided between that topic and spring millinery. The former can be said to be equally as important as the latter, in home as well as in business circles. ‘The wall paper men are in the beat position to know this. There is a big tush of business on at H. Vetter‘s Queen St., store, and those who have visited the place say the display of wall paper consists of the prettiest deâ€" signs ever shown in this vicinity. Xit Vetter carries the largest stock of wall paper in the Twin City. This fact, taken together with the low prices prevailing at his store, proves conclusively that Vetter‘s is the proper place to buy wall paper. The staff of paper hm{ou is large and this branch of the work receives prompt attention. Mention may also be made of the full stock of ready mixed paints carried by Mr Vetter, and this brings us to house painting. The painters employed by |him are experienced and capable work â€" THE WALL PAPER BUSINESS EO ME C eP CCC £ men, as the many people who have had work done by them, are ready to testâ€" ify. ‘Business is booming" said Mr. Vetter, ‘it is a good season for us." and the secret of this seams to be that they carry the best goods and do the ‘best work.
