The Store of J. Uffelman Greatly Enâ€" larged and Improved. One of the most pushing and enterprising merchants of Waterloo County is Mr. J. Uffelman of this town. It is only a couple of months since that Mr. Uffelman purâ€" chased his present King street preinises, although he had occupied them as lessee for a number of years. Owing to the steady and substantial growth of the business he has found it necessary to enlarge his preâ€" mises, and with that end in view carpenters and painters have been busy at work for over a month past making numerous alteraâ€" tions and renovating things generally. Business mon of Mr. Uffelman‘s stamp are a boon to any town, for it is just such men as he who keep the wheels of business humâ€" ming. He now lays claim to having the finest store west of Toronto. The old plate glass fronts have been replaced by larger and more modern ones, the upper portion of the windows being of prismatic glass which conducts the sun‘s rays far into the interior of the store. â€" A goodly number of feet have been added to the length of the store and customers can now view an alâ€" most endless assortment of. dry goods, novelt‘es, readymade clothing, groceries, etc., for over a hundred feet on either side of the s:ore. _A comfortable little office has also been fitted up for the bookkeeper‘s convenience. A number of elegant, wellâ€"lighted rooms have been fitted up on the second flat which will hereafter constitute the house furnishâ€" ings, carpets and millinery departments. Easy access is had to them by a winding stairway at the rear of the store. We understand Mr. Uffelman has engaged Miss Roon ey,jof Campbellford, to look after the millinery department. _ Miss Rooney has had extended business relations with the people of Waterloo for several seasons past in her capacity as headgear artist, and her ability is well known. The whole store has put on a new and bright appearance, everyâ€" thing seecming to feel the effect of the change, and the counters and shelves are fairly grogning under the weight of the new things in the line" of fall novelties arriving daily, » The funeral will tike place on Saturâ€" day afternoon f:om the hotel at 2 o‘clock, thence to So. John‘s Lutheran Church for service and then to Mount Hope Cemetery for interment. A PROGRESSIVE MERCHANT. An extensive obituary ro:ice of the deceased will appear next week.
