The room was beautifully decorated for the occasion with palms and Chrysanthe- mums. Despite the unpropitious weather there was a good turnout. and a very pleasant social evening was spent. Lry; AuitTATrcrh-A very unfortu- nate accident took place on Monday on the farm of Mr. Jacob C. Erb, two miles west of Waterloo. Mr. Erb was ting-med in sawing wood and was driv. ing the home power. Getting off the power to we the saw his foot was caught in the gearing and terribly crushed, It was found necessary to amputate the let: about 1 inches below the knee. Dm‘rn or' Mus. o'Dosouor:.-- The many friends of Mr. Jag. O'Donohoe and family, formerly of Waterloo, will be surprised and pained to hear of the death of Mrs. Jas, U'Donohoe at Win. nipeg on Monday, Nov. 11th, 1895. She had been ill for some time with cancer of the liver and for 5or 6 weeks prior to her death no hopes for her recovery harlbeen entertained. Mrs. H'l’unolme was well and Favorably known to a large circle of friends and acquaintances both in Waterloo and Berlin who will very deeply sympathize with the lwreaved family in the loss they have sustained. A very interesting service was held on Tuesday of last week in the Y.M.C. A. Hall, Berlin, being a recognition service in connection with the newly formed English Baptist church, The following pastors, representing the de. nomination, were present: Revds.J.P. sucrnsen, siupt.Wpt)st Home Missions; wuDrcKay, Stratford; G.Fetzer, Ben lin; J.W.Weelm Guelph; O. C. Elliot, l Tavistock; Wm. Spencer, East Flam- boro: Wm. Peer, Hespeler: C.C.McLau- “tin, Galt. Delegates were also present from some of the churches represented. ‘Afters season bt prayer for wisdom l and guidance, the council was formed with Rm). trrucKsy of Stratford in the chair. \V.H.Joyce and John Cation were appointed to" represent the newly formed church. The articles of faith as held by regular 'Baptist churches were then read and adopted by those present. After which it was decided in. unanimnns vote to fellowship the b, Tne Churches. ENGLISH BAPTIST . “Lunc- argitg. " Pts, Salvation Anny is all’alive and actively engaged in preparing toe their annual Self-denial Weeks, which takes place throughout Canada from Novem- her 30th to December 7th, inclusive. Large sums of money have been raised In canyons. and it is a wonderful I testimony tothe Army's development and activity. Each soldier of the Army as well " the friends, of its many social institutions, are asked to abstain traps all luxuries, and in many cases others and soldiers have actually determined to do without certain articles of food il which are ordinarily considered neces- sary, in order that by their acts of N selfdenial they may add tinancid sup- l port to the Army and its many different branches of work. A new feature has been introduced this year which con- sists of a prettily designed sack, lurtr dreds of which will be scattered _ throughout the country, amonq friendly t farmers and others, who will have the opportunity of filling the same with 1 any kind of grain they may feel dig. posed to give. All proceeds raised from the sale of grain will be donated to this fund. The social operations of the Army have greatly developed throughout Canada during the past twelve months, new Food and Shelter Depots having been opened at Winni. peg and Victoria respectively. As a natural consequence therefore the demands upon the Armies have in- creased, and this will require a still greater effort to raise a corresponding increased amount during this special Self-denial week. The total amount I aimed at is 825,000, which is about ' 84000 more than what was raised last 5 year. In order that the amount may , be realized, the most strenuous efforts , are being put forth not only in the r towns where corps are established, but! . also in the gttrroanding villages and country. It is a cause for surprise that the amounts collected during past _ Self-denial weeks in Canada, have been 3 continually increasing, and there are J many reasons for believing that this S year's effort will exceed any former . We learn that some of the otficers and e soldiers actually determined to line on t bread and water (or next to it) in order t to reach the goal aimed at. Soldiers e have been told off to visit from house to house and solicit contributions. In other places members of the Army's Brass Band have arranged to serenade e. and by this means raise something MY towards thier tsrsrt.---Cotn. Anniversary sermons were preached in the Waterloo Methodist church on Sunday morning and evening by the Rev. G. F. Salton to large and appre- ciative audiences.
