A meeting of the Board of Trade was held on Friday evening at the call of the President The meeting was fairly well attended. Mr. A. B. McBride was elected secretary to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr.Geo.Hutchi- son. The President and the Secretary were appointed a committee to prepare a suitable resolution of condolence to the widow of the late Secretary. The report of the Special Committee appointed to confer with the Waterloo Water Works Co. re the purchase of thepresent plant was presented by Mayor Snyder. The committee got two estimates prepared (a) of the cost of the prement plant in 1895 and (b) of the cost of a similar plant in 1889. As there was some doubt as to the mean- ing of the Act under which the agree- ment between the Town and the Com- pany was made, the committee was in- structed to obtain the opinion of some good legal authority on the matter. - " . . 3) A- ALA T., 5w"- ""'"Pe' â€" . The trial last- ed three days and was bitterly fought out between the Crown and defence. The prosecution claimed that McLeod VII the man who did the tin box trick in buying McBean’s farm last August and brought witnesses to identify him. Mr. Nicol Jeffrey, of Guelph, defended McLeod and had several witnesses to swear an alibi that he was in Guelph on that day. Judge Lemurse, before whom the case cnme up for hearing de.
