State Elections. A BEMOCRATIC ROUT. Washington, D. C., Nov. 6.â€"There is no doubt that the Republicass have secured a working majority of the next House, and probably a large in«jority, New York, Nov. 6,â€"The Congrese ional representation from this state will stand, Republicans 29, Democrats New York, Nov. 6.â€"The Mercury says that Sulzer is probably the only Democratic nominee for Congress electâ€" ed in Ne York City, The Mail and Express estimates that the Assembly will consist of 87 lNiepubâ€" licans and 51 Democrats. The World bulletin says that irdicaâ€" tions point to the defeat of HMill by over 100,000, and the probability is that the RepuSlic.ans have elected three Cenâ€" gressmen and tweive Assemblymen in New York City. The Republicans have carried this State for (Governor by «bout 100,000 and have carried New York, Brooklyn and Buffalo cities for the in:portant municipal ottices. Brooklyn, Nov.6.â€"The Citizen (Dem.) in an extra at 10 o‘clocktonight, says that the HRepublicans probably carry four out of the tive Congressional disâ€" tricts in Kings, and 13 out of 18 As:â€" seimbly districts, and elect th ir local ticket by an average majority of 20,â€" 000. About 20,000 voters in Brouklyn are said to have been unable to cast ballots because of the slowness of othâ€" ets The Republicans have made a clean sweep of Brooklyn,. Morton carries the city by about 18,000. Saxton‘s plurality is a couple of thousand less. Harman, Republican is elected Regisâ€" ter, and the Republicans have probably elected Congressmen in districts formerâ€" ly Demccratic. Washington, D. C., Nov, 6. â€"Chairâ€" man Babcock at one o‘clock sends the following to Tom Reed:â€"*"The retarns are so onerwhelmingly Republican that it is difficult to give an estimate of our majority in the next House. New York sends not less than 24, Illinois 16, | Michigan, Conneéticut and several othâ€" er States solid Republican delegations. The free traders, Wm, L. Wilson of West Virginia and Tom Johnson of (B%hio, are both defeated, Our majority cannot be less than 25 and may reach 50. _ We shall a‘so have a majority of States, not less than 36 sending Repubâ€" lican delegations. ILLINOIS GOES REPUBLICAN, Chicago, Nov. 6.â€"The returns are coming in slowly, owing to the heavy vote which is being polled, and no one can gixe absolutely correct estimates on the result, ‘but everything points to a complete victory for the Republican Aforces, & largely increased vote for the Populists, with little hope for the Dem:â€" perats any where. It is now reasonally certain that the Republican State tickâ€" et will be elected by a big majority ; that the Republicans have elected a majority of the Cook County Commisâ€" missioners and that they will have a majority in the State Assembly. The last claim made by the Republican State Central Committee was that the State is Republican by 70,000 pluraliâ€" ity Chicago, Nov. 6.â€"The Republican Stnte ticket is probably elected by~.8,â€" 000 to 10,000 majority. Chicago is conceded to have gone Republican on the State ticket. Ornly minor state officers were electâ€" ed in Ohio, but as the Republicans not only maintained the strength exhibited at the election last year, when McKinâ€" ley was elected Governor by 85,000,but swelled the majority to over 100,000, the result will give the McKinley moveâ€" ment for President a lively impetus. Davis H. Waite, the Populist ally in Colorado of Tillman of South Caroâ€" lina was defeated for Governor by Johnston (Republican) whose majority is 18,000. Connecticut elected a Republican Governor and delegation to Congress. Knute Wilson (Republican)has been reâ€"elected Governor in Minnesota by & decreased2masjority, owing to the preâ€" sence of a Populist candidate in the field. Massachusetts went Republican by an increased majority. |__ _ _ In addition to electing their Governâ€" or in Michigan, the Republicans send a solid delegation‘to Congress, and in Wayne County which includes Detroit city, carried all municipal offices save TAMMANY‘s POWER BROKEN. Treasurer. _ Lemocratic dissensions tavored them. Speaker Crisp (Democrat) has been reâ€"elected in Georgia. Little Delaware for the second time in@a generation has gone Republican for Governor,Congressmen and United SumSoostixyuqagotheIAgi-s lature went Republican. J New Jersey willâ€"haye a Republican New York has gone Republican by over 100,.000 majority, Senator Hill is overwhelmfng majority. Brooklyn and Buffalo are also Republican for municiâ€" pai affairs. | The vote in New York city for Govâ€" erpor was Hill 124,050, [Morton 121,â€" 501 ; Strong,152,691 ; Grant, 111,257. The Parkburst movement against Tamâ€" many was chiefly respoonsible for the Republican victory in New York State. The New York delegation to Conâ€" gress will stand 29 Republicans to 5 Democrats, compared with 11 Republiâ€" cans and 23 Democrats at last election. The state legislature is Republican by 81 to 55. Waterloo County Chronicle Thursday, November 15 1894 â€"Page 7. The result of the election was receiâ€"! ved with great enthusiasm by the op-l ponents of Tamimany Hall. Dr. Parkâ€"; hurst came into the Gomimnittee of 70 | headquarters at 7.30 o‘clock and was | immediately surrounded and congratu-l lated by those present. Dr, Parkhurstl said : "This victory signifies first that | the people are getting their eyes open, | and that their consciences are awake. 1 In the second place, that although our | American institunions were put to a| severe test, the better element has preâ€" ! vailed, and good municipal government | is assured. Good municipal government | means that the country will maintain | itsgelf. That is all there is of it." | Neither Senator Hill nor Gov. Flowâ€" er would discuss the results of the elecâ€" tion. Governor elect Morton said tonight : "I accept the result of today‘s election as the protest of the people of the emâ€" pire state against false theories and practices in Federal and State Governâ€" ment, and the condemnation of official corruption in New York city. I am proâ€" founsly seusible of the high honor counâ€" ferred upon me by the citizens of this great state and of the grave responsibiâ€" lities which will devolve upon me as the result of their action." The result of the vote on the Constiâ€" tutional amendments in New York will not be made know until today, aithough the indications are that they are carâ€" ried. . Although Nebraska _ Republicans were divided with the Democrats unitâ€" ed with the Populists, the returns show a Republican gain. . In Kansas "Sockless Jerry" Simpson (Demccrat)is defeated by Lang(Repubâ€" fican.) | : 0 |_ l In Maryland the solid Democrat front has been broken, and the Reâ€" publicans have made unprecedented gains. The Republicans of Wisconsin have carrried the state of over 15,000 plurâ€" ality for Governor Upham and their state ticket, Louisiana returned afull Democratic delegation to Congress, despite the bolt of the sugar planters. e s & w ie e anee rys ce e eene oc Denny, therRepublican csnd}dnte,bu carried the Seventh Congress District of Kentucky. This is the district reâ€" presented by W. C. P. Breckenridge, defendant in the famous Pollard scanâ€" dal case. Breckenridge was defeated in the primaries by Owens and the latâ€" ter is now defeated. Indiana elected only minor state offiâ€" cers, but the result on the state and Congress tickets, and went strongly Reâ€" publican, will be generally interpreted as an endorsement of exâ€"President Harâ€" rison, who has made an earnest camâ€" paign in the state. _ The returns from Texas, where the Populists boasted they would capture the state officers ind a majority of the Congress delegation, shows that the Democrats have retained the state, but by a reduced majority. PARKHURST VIEWS IT. ALTL MEN IN OTHER STATES. Situation of the Woolen Manufacturers During the past moath the Canadian woolen mills have beed running, but only a few are going up to their full caâ€" pacity, and while many are comp‘ainâ€" ing of slack orders, all have reason to complain of the prices they get. This is partly due to the keen competition with Euglish and German goods (‘In the case of the former a large quantity of tweeds and cloth have been unloaded on this market by English houses who have been disappointed in their expecâ€" tations of doing a boom trade in the United States on the, change of tariff.. It is true that the prices of English goods bave gone up in the past three. weeks, but it is not believed here that the price will be of long duration,. But even if prices continue on this present level, Eoglish houses will be able to send considerable quantities of goods here, while the Germansâ€"adopting the scheme of sending in undervalued goods duty paidâ€"are proving a new source of disturbance to the home manufact: urer. â€" The Canadian tweed manufact urers have suffered perbaps more than any other class of our woolen manuâ€" facturers, as fashion has run so largely ‘into serges, worsteds and cheviots, Agnin, the manufacturer has suffered a ‘good deal from the methods of the wholesale trade. Tomention one point, leight or ten years ago any of the large \ mills would scarcely accept an order for less than ten or twelve pieces of a single pattern, _ Then the wholesale trade got them down to four and five, and at length to one piece of each pattern, while now they demand suit lengths and "ends." A number of mills, in consequence, have dropped the wholeâ€" ‘sale houses altogether in the last year, and sell to the retail trade, and more miil owners are considering whether they shall follow their example.â€" lTrnde Journal. â€" _ Philosophy For a Bill Collector. How mauny bills have you got in that pack ? ‘About forty,‘ said the collector. ‘How long does it take you to visit all thsse people? the philosopher inâ€" quired. ‘About a day.‘ ‘What if all paid promptly ? ‘Why that would be great.‘ ‘Would it?
