Cleveland and the Demoâ€" cratic party, but you‘re away off when you say it‘s free wool that did it. Wool hadn‘t anything to do with it, neither did the dinner pail racket. Fact is, it was a personal matter beâ€" tween Cleveland and myself; or rather between him and the whole of Sbakanâ€" abee Corners. Tell you how it was. You see Ame and me worked like the devil for Grove two years ago, and you can bet there wasn‘t an Injun living withiu a mile on either side of the county line who wasn‘t voted for him all straight. Well! he was elected, and 1 thought oue good turn deserved another so I considered what I‘d ask Grover for. I‘d have asked him for a foreign mission, but you see I had those corner lots at Bay Shore to work off and couldn‘t leave home. There wasn‘t any federal office around Shakâ€" anabre Corners to fill, and not being a soldier I couldn‘t get my peusion raised on the q. t., so I had to f«all back on something else, Now, you know my farm, Charley! It‘s the best grass and potato land in Emmet county, bat I hadn‘t tried any other root crops and I thought if I could get some good variâ€" ety of rutabaga seed from Washington I‘d give‘erma a try. So one Sunday I wrote Grover about itâ€"hold on a min ute ! I‘ve got a copy of that very letâ€" ter in my pocket. The fact is, there‘s a lot of fellows in Petoskey who make a big to do about what they do for the Democratic party, but when is comes to getting the votes in Bear Creek me and my son Ame can discount ‘em. Every one of ‘em wants an office and if you make one of ‘em P. M. and another one U. 8. marshal, the whole crowd will have an office of some kind, either county, state or federal. I don‘t want an office. I‘ve got a good farm at Shakanabee and what I want is some prime baga seed. I wish you‘d just step round to the seed store of Mr. Morton and order him to send me some. I‘m not personally acquainted with Sterling and he might send it if I wrote to him myself. Albany corr. New York Sun ~ Believing that he was becoming inâ€" sane and still in his right mind, yet feeling his reason gradually leaving him is the strange case of James P.Irvâ€" ing, an Albany business man who lives on Quaail street this city. Irving apâ€" pliea to the Overseer of the Poor and made declaration that he was sure that bhe was becoming insane and petitioned that he be examined as to his insanity. ‘It is because I am afraid that I might do harm to someone that I love dearly,‘ said Irving, ‘that I come to you. _ I feel ali the symptoms of insanâ€" ity come upon me,. I am in my right mind now and I wanted to see you so you might understand my case. It is an awful thing but I ‘realize very well that I am losing my senses. The thoughts which I have are dreadful, and often I am tempted to murder my wife and children and to cut my own throat. It is an awful feeling, and I don‘t think I can resist it long. Strange voices I hear, and demons seem to have taken possegrion of my head. If Inmediately after his family had left, Irving became & raving ruaniac, and was violent as he was being taken to the asylum. It was one of the sadâ€" dest cases ever recorded in the Overâ€" seer of the Poor‘s office. I am not sent to an asylam I will surely do harm.‘ His farewoll to bis family was really touching and caused the attaches of the office to turn their heads and by coughâ€" ing endeavor to suppress the lumps which had arisen in their throats. Irvâ€" ing‘s wife and children bad been sent for. They came to the Overseer of the Poor‘s office wondering why they were wanted. Mr. Irving had not told them a word of his condition and the surâ€" prise and grief displayed were great. It was much worse than the taking leave of a dying man, because Irving realized that in a few minutes he would be taken away from his beloved ones. To bis family, it was like cousigning him to & living death. The Overgeer looked at Irving. He is a man of powerful physique, six feet high and very respectable looking. His face bore traces of anguish and one could readily see that he was speaking the truth. Drs. Morrill and Hennesay were sent for and they examined the man and declared him insane. Judge Chute endorsed the papere and he was taken to the State Insane Asylum at Ploughkeepsie.
