- This photo of Reverend Ignatius Perius was originally found in The Diamond Jubilee History of the Diocese of Hamilton with a Complete History of the County of Waterloo book that was published in 1916. This book explains the history of the Catholic Church in Waterloo County up until the year of its publication.
Ignatius Perius arrived from Rome in 1897 and studied at St. Jerome's College in Kitchener. Perius worked under Father Theobald Spetz at St. Louis Catholic Church.
St. Louis congregation began in 1889 when Waterloo Catholics petitioned Reverend Louis Funcken of St. Mary's Church, Berlin (Kitchener) for a Catholic church in Waterloo. The original church building was dedicated on January 6, 1891.
