This photo was originally found in The Diamond Jubilee History of the Diocese of Hamilton with a Complete History of the County of Waterloo book that was published in 1916. This book explains the history of the Catholic Church in Waterloo County up until the year of its publication.

St. Louis congregation began in 1889 when Waterloo Catholics petitioned Reverend Louis Funcken of St. Mary's Church, Berlin (Kitchener) for a Catholic church in Waterloo. The original church building was dedicated on January 6, 1891.The church underwent a large expansion in 1914 that can be seen in this photo.
