Born: 1815, Died 1912
Married: Catherine Stauffer, Agnes Hosea
When John Good and family came to Canada in 1815, his son Joel was 2 years of age. Joel received a fair education for his time, having attended the early Waterloo log school. He inherited part of the large home farm. But farming was not his main interest. He became a land surveyor. In those early days of growth and settlement in Waterloo, Joel did much surveying of new roads, streets and building lots. One of his interesting jobs was the surveying of burial lots in the newly established Mount Hope Cemetery in 1866. Another was laying out of a quarter mile bicycle track in the new West side park (later Waterloo Park) when it was developed after 1895. He was in his 97th year when he died in 1912. His obituary indicated that he was ranked with the first of Provincial land surveyors.
