Born: 1858 Died: 1920
Married: Catherine Huether

Charles H. Froelich, born in 1858, was a son of Valentine Froelich. He grew up in an hotel atmosphere and in his youth, no doubt, helped his father in various chores around the establishment. He married Catherine Huether, the daughter of Christopher Huether, who worked in opposition to his Dad in the Huether Hotel just up King St. Charles’ life was varied and his interests were many. For a time he was a foreman in the Seagram Distillery. He also operated a cigar box factory on Queen St. In the 1890s he conducted a barber shop in the Zimmerman Hotel at King and Erb Sts. Later on he was a member of the staff at the Dominion Rubber Company. Perhaps his main interest was in music. He was choir leader in St. John’s Lutheran Church for a number of years. As well, he was leader of the Harmonic Singing Society that had quarters located in the Harmonic Hall (where Harmony Lunch is located today). He was quite active in the saengerfests conducted in Waterloo, especially those held in 1902 and 1912. Besides all this, he became involved in local politics and was elected to town council for a time. Also he served as town assessor for a few years.
