This is a handwritten biography of Robert Y. Fish from the Ellis Little Papers. This biography has been transcribed exactly as written. Ellis Little was a local historian, who was the principal of Elizabeth Ziegler Public School.On his retirement, he invested much of his time in researching and writing about Waterloo's history. The Ellis Little Papers consist of extensive notes, papers and historical works.

Robert Fish came to Linwood in the mid 1800s and rapidly became an important personage in the business life of the community. In the beginning, he was a pump maker but soon became the owner of a sawmill in the village. In the 1860s he opened a general store and from 1868-87 became Post Master in the Post Office located in his place of business. In the early 1890s he moved to the town of Waterloo where he opened a dry goods store on King St. S. He became a member of Waterloo Council and in 1894 was elected Mayor. He helped officiate at the opening of the Berlin-Waterloo Hospital in 1895. However, in 1902 he moved back to Linwood where he operated the Linwood Corner Store.
