- Notes
- The inscription on the gates reads: "In memoriam to the bandmen of Canada who died in the service during the two wars". Rev. J.V. Mills, rector of St. John's Anglican Church officiated at the dedication service. Also on the platform were Father L. Seiss, Rev. John Schmieder and L.O. Breithaupt, MP for North Waterloo.
The Canadian Boys' Band Camp called Bandberg was conceived by and largely paid for by Charles F. Thiele, bandmaster of the Waterloo Musical Society Band. Construction began in 1945, and the camp was dedicated on September 7, 1946. Accommodation was provided for boys from all over Canada. Each boy had to audition for Professor Thiele, to attend the camp. The camp included a working farm with cows, pigs and chickens to provide food. The camp was closed and the property sold after Thiele's death in 1954.
