Description
Exterior of the first school house in Waterloo built in 1820, inside Waterloo Park. Plaque above the door reads; "First School House in Waterloo. Built 1820". Note the two stones and tree trunk with descriptive plaques. Two are legible, "Section of abnormal growth of river bottom oak" and "Indian stone". The stone was presented to the park by J.G. Stroh in 1918. It was found on the site of native village Suraras Springs on Huron Road, two miles south of Mannheim. The Park pavilion can be seen in the background.
Notes
After 1842 building was moved to King Street West near Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate & Vocational School (KCI), where the family of Levi and Margaret Carroll lived in it until Margaret's death in 1891. The Waterloo Park Board purchased it in 1894, moved it to Waterloo Park where it was restored.

The pavilion was built in 1897 and removed from the park in 1972.
