- Description
- Seven members of the Schmaltz 'N Lena Pickelheimer Family Band from New Dundee, Ontario, some dressed in clown-like clothes, possibly at a ploughing match. Two musicians are seated on horses, and one horse has his nose inside a tuba. Band leader, Earl Einwechter, on the left is wearing clown shoes and holding one of a pair of pot scrubbers he used to bang on a large drum. Horses wearing harnesses rather than riding tack.
Earl Einwechter's nickname was Schmaltz, and Albert Fiederlein's, when dressed as a woman, was Lena.
International Ploughing Matches were held in the area in 1946 (Goderich, Huron), 1949 (Brantford, Brant), 1951 (Woodstock, Oxford), and 1954 (Breslau, Waterloo). - Date of Original
