Description
Photograph of a postcard with a view of King Street looking north towards Erb Street.
Waterloo Manufacturing Company foundry and machine shop and warehouse visible on the left. Past it is the Snider Flour Mill.
In the distance on the right is the Hotel Waterloo, and the spire of St. John's Lutheran Church at King Street and Bridgeport Road (formerly Cedar and Laurel Street).
Electric street car tracks can be seen, but no electric street lights. The roads are unpaved (but were paved in 1912).
Notes
The original foundry and machine shop was built in 1850 by Buehler, Booth and Company. Within ten years it was taken over by Jacob Bricker, his sons and E.W.B. Snider and called Bricker and Company. In 1888 the company amalgamated with Merner and Company of Waterloo and Elmira Agricultural Works and was renamed the Waterloo Manufacturing Company Limited, manufacturing threshing machines. Company still in existence in 2008.
This building was demolished in 1959.
