- Description
- Interior of Fischer's Grocery store, likely located on King Street South between the street railway tracks at the time and Weaver (now Willis Way), and currently across from the Waterloo Public Square.
Second from left; Edward Witzel. - Notes
- Vernon's 1911-1912 and 1913 directories list Edward Witzel as a clerk at C.E. Fischer.
Charles Edward Fischer was born on September 17, 1877 to John and Catherine (Kate) Fischer, and had a brother named Edgar (likely butcher Edgar J. on King Street North). Charles is listed as a bookkeeper in the 1901 census. He married Rosa Strauss on June 4, 1907 at which time he is listed as a butcher. The 1911 directory lists Fischer as selling "cigars and books" at his King Street store, and the 1919 directory says "cigars, billiards, etc." Fischer died in 1931 and is buried in Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Cemetery in Sarnia, alongside his wife who died in 1960.
