- Exterior of house at 172 King Street South built by Abraham Erb, founder of Waterloo in 1812.
- Notes
- The original portion of the house was built in 1812; Abraham's widow, Magdalena sold it to Barnabas Devitt (Erb's adopted son) in 1835; an addition was built about 1849; in 1851 the property was purchased by Elias Snider then sold to John Hoffman who likely built the second addition including a two-storey front porch circa 1855. Christian Kumpf purchased the property in 1869 and sold it to his son Ford Kumpf in 1899. The Kumpf family occupied the house for several decades. In 1973 the house was sold by the Kumpf descendents and became a furniture showroom and design studio. In 1978 a law office opened in the house.
It was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1979. - Date of Original
