- The hotel opened in the 1860's, having several proprietors before the building was sold to Forsyth in 1917 and converted to a factory.
The building was purchased in 1917 by Forsyth Productions Limited. The company started in 1903 as a distributor of pins, thread, buttons, celluloid collars and other items, and then began selling shirts and ties as well as other clothing items. They purchased the Star Whitewear building at Duke and Young streets in Kitchener in 1908.
In 1914, Forsyth Productions purchased the William Kress Company on King Street South, and in 1917 bought the former Market Hotel to make pajamas and underwear.
The company sold in 1973. This factory was closed in 1996 and production moved to Cambridge.
