I believe, I am the passenger sitting in this vehicle. I worked for Fleuty Ambulance and Funeral Home From July 15 , 1967 to January 1976. During which time I drove this vehicle on many calls. The most notable call was the Plane Crash north of what is now the Pearson International Airport. It was a quiet Sunday morning at about 7:45 am June 8th.,1968. All on board Died. I was the second Ambulance on the scene! Having driven from the four corner of what was then known as Cooksville, Now part of the City of Missisauga. On arrival it was quite obvious that there would be no survivors, however we had to walk the scene through the smoke and debris to make sure. Once I left the scene I never went back as did many others to assist in the body recovery process. I just couldn't.
I came across this photo by accident while doing reserch on Old Ambulances of Ontario. In 1971 The Government issued us with a new 1971 Ford Econoline Van Ambulance which was to become the provincial Standard for the time. The unit pictured was sold to I believe a service in Eastern Canada. I went on to work as a paramedic for serveral more years then left to join the Police until retirement in 1993.
