"I'm sorry, but I wasn't elected to represent the people of Rossport," said Schreiber Coun. Lorraine Huard during the Schreiber Council meeting May 19. Huard and other Council members, including Reeve Bob Krause, expressed concern that the costs of operating the bus would be increasing to serve residents outside of Schreiber and Terrace Bay who, along Terrace Bay Public School held its grade eight graduation June il (above). This year's theme song was Bryan Adam's song "Everything I do, I do it for you." with Ministry of Transporta- tion, subsidize the bus service. At the May 14 meeting of the Disabled Persons Transit Operating and Eligibility Com- mittee, the committee recom- mended that fares to and from Rossport be reduced to $4 for the mobility impaired person, $8 for their companion, and $5 for senior citizens. Rates cur- rently stand at $5, $10 and $7 respectively. Committee member Rose Marie Renaud said in an inter- view that the committee made the recommendation to make it more affordable for the 8-10 Rossport residents who are continued on page 12 BDC wants easement and water line by Darren MacDonald The News The Superior North Business Development Centre wants Ter- race Bay Council to provide them with an easement for a proposed water line to provide water to the Wiseway building on the Mill Road in Terrace Bay. "Basically what we wanted in the first place was for them to provide water for us," says BDC manager Mary Long. "Failing that, we wanted to know if they would provide us with an easement." An easement gives the town- ship control over a piece prop- erty with a water line running undemeath it. "They're about seven feet wide, and nobody can build on top of it because we have a water line there," says Clerk- Treasurer David Fulton. To obtain an easement, Ful- ton says the property would have to be surveyed, and the survey would have to be regis- tered with the Lands and Titles Office in Thunder Bay. "This one is really kind of complicated because it's not our water line," he says. ""What they (the BDC) were talking about was the possibility of us taking over that private water line. If we did that, then we would have to put an easement on each property that the line Tuns through." Another' possibility, says Fulton, is for the BDC to make a private arrangement for the water line with the Mill Road Service Centre, who's property they would have to cross. "So it's still kind of up in the air whether the town wants to go ahead and acquire the water line and then extend it to the Wiseway building, or whether the town wants to stay out of it and just let (the BDC) handle it on their own." But Mary Long says that they need the kind of protection an easement would provide. "Say if we (make a private agreement with the service cen- tre) and do tap into the water line, and then all of a sudden for some reason they don't like us. They have the legal right to continued on page 2 TERRACE BAY INSURANCE LTD.
