Banking machine would be good for businesses, residents by Darren MacDonald The News It's time for Schreiber/Ter- race Bay to join the 1990s and get a bank machine, says Aguasabon Chamber of Com- merce President Leslie Dick- son. "We seem to be one of the few communities of any signif- icant size that doesn't have a banking machine," Dickson says. "Manitouwadge has one, Marathons has two, Nipigon has one, but we don't." In a joint venture by the Chamber and the. Schreiber- Terrace Bay Community Futures Office, residents are being surveyed to find out how interested they are in having a machine installed. _"T think the response has been fairly good, but we won't know for sure until we get the final tally," she says. Dickson says the results will be collected at the end of this week. The results will then be compiled and sent to each dis- trict manager of the local banks and credit unions. "And then we hope that they'll get back to us and we enter into a discussion about whether they will or won't put a machine in," she says. "Their concer is that these things cost a lot of money, and that they need so many transac- tions per day to make them viable. And what they're say- ing is that the area is too small, that there isn't enough bank transactions to make it eco- - nomically viable." She has had preliminary talks with the managers already, and Dickson says the regional manager of the Cana- dian Imperial Bank of Com- merce said he will be "interest- ed" to see what the results of the survey will be. continued on page 6 \._ DIANNE O'NEILL TERRA CE BAY INSURANCE LTD.
