When Lynda Velanoff com- pleted her studies in law and security, opening a flower shop did not seem to be the next log- ical step. "IT sat around for a year because there wasn't many jobs around," she says. So Velanoff studied how to design, handle and care for flo- ral arrangements, and, with encouragement from the Busi- ness: Development Centre; she" opened Strawberry's Floral Boutique at the Simcoe Plaza in Terrace Bay. Velanoff first conducted a market survey that showed there was demand for her busi- ness. "The feedback I got from people in Terrace Bay was that having a flower shop here would be appreciated," she says. "So I took my chances." Velanoff opened for business last June, and held her grand opening' last 'Thursday, Friday' and Saturday. Each day, a draw was made sholds its grand opening for a $25 gift certificate. Thurs- day's winner was Rosa Com- misso, Friday's was Ariane Falzetta, and Saturday's winner was Herman Eickholt. In addition to flowers, the boutique specializes in helium, balloons, stain glass, stuffed animals, wedding consultations and greeting cards. "We also do dried arrange- ments,"she says.
