Page 3, News, Tuesday, April 2, 1991 Schreiber Figure Skating Club Stars on Ice skating Carnival is a success The Schreiber Figure Pellegrino placed Fourth, Skating Club presented its figure skating carnival Stars on Ice with two shows on the weekend of March 23, 24. Under a dazzling display of lights the costumed skaters entertained the crowd with numerous performances. One number, the Lambada, involved 17 skaters and showed off very well the skating skills of club members. There were also pleasing solo and dual performances. As well as preparing for the carnival this month the Schreiber Figure Skating Club also sent twenty - one skaters to the Thunder Bay Open Competition held at the Port Arthur. Arena, March 8, 9, 10.° In the 33 events entered the Schreiber skaters claimed eight medals; three gold, three silver and two bronze. The results are as follows: Canskate Ladies Singles B: Flight 1; Corrin Madge placed Fourth. Flight 2; Jaime Glad placed Second - Silver Medal, and Karen Wilson placed Fourth. Flight 3; Jan Miller placed First - Gold Medal. _....Canskate Ladies Singles A: - Courtney Miller placed Third - Bronze Medal, Brittany Glad placed Fifth, Meghan Miller placed Tenth. Pre-Juvenile Ladies Singles B: Flight 1; Kristina Walsh placed Sixth, Flight 2; Jodi Schreiber Figure Skating Club's participants in the Thunder Bay Open Terrace Bay-Schreiber Bantams win the Districts The Terrace Bay-Schreiber Bantam hockey team finished off a winning season by beating Thunder Bay 3-2 in the final game of the District tournament . The team finished the round-robin in first place with a .83 average, defeating Longlac 10-0 in the first game, Kenora 7-1 in the second game and tied Thunder Bay 3-3. They then met and defeated the second place team, Thunder Bay, in the final game. Coach Stan Spadoni said the team play was great in the Districts and throughout the year, from the goal tending up. "The team could not have gone anywhere without goaltender Tim McParland - he was that ~ exceptional," Spadoni said. combined with the scoring punch of Doug Costa . added a lot to the success of the team, he continued, as did the defensive leadership of Dwayne Courtemanche and the solid defensive play of Shane Papineau and Kyle Polesky. "Hard checking by forwards, Rocco Crupi and Joey Clark added to the team's attack, " he said. The Bantam team picked up two players from Manitouwadge for the Districts and Spadoni said these players complemented the team. Assistant coaches Trevor Mikus, Bert Logan and Jamie Speer, and manager Ron Fummerton worked with the team through out the season. The team won four out of five tournaments during the season.
