Babysitting Course "Babysitters Training Couns was held recently at Holy Angels School, Schreiber with 16 students attending, instructed by Estelle Morrill. The Babysitters Training Course is aimed at young people 12 years of age. It is an ideal community project which will help prevent accidents while chil- dren are under. care of babysitters and will also serve to improve general child care. In order to meet a growing demand in Canadian communities for capable and responsible babysitters, the Canada Safety Council has produced this detailed course. Its aim is to enlist services of teachers and leaders across the country in upgrading the standards of babysitting in our areas. We are pleased to co-operate with the Canada Safety Council in this objective. Topics covered under the course are: 1. Rights and responsibilities of a child, babysitter, and parent 2. Child behaviour and devel- opment 3. Caring for the child and nutrition 4. Child safety and first aid 5. Handling emergencies; fire and invasion of privacy 6.The constrained child 7. Children with special needs 8. Play activities for children To graduate and receive a cer- tificate, the students must acquire practical experience with an eval- uation done by a parent and a written exam with at least 75% achieved. Volunteer speakers that donat- ed their time and expertise were: Bev Asmussen, C. Smith, C. Withers, K. Asmussen, Burt Logan, Linda Stewart, and Angela Pretty. Sister Grexton and Gerry Mikalauskas made the room available for us. I know all students who attended have learned a great deal and will be more capable and responsible babysitters. Travel Tips By Joe Mykietyn A lot of times people travel to destinations unaware of what a simple ride from the airport to downtown hotels costs and are either pleasantly surprised or totally shocked. Each month I will submit one city and do a simplified cost run- down on accommodations, meals, and transportation. All prices are in U.S. dollars: passport B Ball The music was for dancing and reminiscing with the big band sounds of Dorsey, Goodman, Miller, Shaw, Krupa, Vaugn, Ellington, and many more. It was the Rossport Ball, an intimate affair lit by candlelight and nos- talgia. Those attending feasted on an abundant tray of Hors d'oeuvres and danced the night away. All proceeds for the occasion went to the Rossport Historical Society who is still acquiring funds and memorabilia for their mini-museum. The project is slow but steady. The society has already been given some wonderful pho- _ tographs and written history of its community. The evening ended with "Goodnight Irene", everyone joining hands and singing to the taxi from airport to downtown hotels- $5-$6, shared van service from airport to downtown-$4, municipal bus from airport to downtown-$1, double right at deluxe hotel-$130-$225, double room at moderate hotel-$60- $100, dinner for two at restaurant (deluxe)- $70-$80, dinner for two (moderate)- $35-$45, gallon of gasoline- $1.03, adult admission to the San Diego Zoo- $8.50, Ferry to Coronado Island across San Diego Bay- $1, San Diego trolley to Tijuana-$1.50.
