Sixty students from grades 4 to 6, 3 teachers, and 3 parent vol- unteers participated in outdoor projects which included making brushpile hideouts and owl nests, Brushpile hideouts Brushpile hideouts were made from a combination of rocks, dead logs and branches. Rocks are first placed on the ground and covered by criss-crossed logs. © The logs are then covered by smaller brush and branches until . it reaches a height of about four to five feet. Shelter provided The hideouts provide shelter for small animals such as chip- munks, squirrels, rabbits, martens, mink, as well as some birds and snakes. Students arranged the brush so that there wouldn't be room for larger animals such as foxes. About 120 Terrace Bay citizens were out on April 22, doing their part for Earth Day by picking up litter around the town. To make a nest, a cone of chicken wire is constructed and lined with paper. A drain hole is cut in the bottom. A stick nest is built inside the cone by weaving small branches into the wire. The finished cone is then placed in the crotch of a tree 3m to 6.5m above the ground. A few young girls then swept up the area of branches used to make the nests, so to leave the area clean for other nature lovers. Dave Tamblyn, project coordi- nator, mentioned,"The students are also learning man's affect on habitat in the classroom." The students will be returning to Rainbow Falls on May Ist, where with the help of Mike Kenny, will be planting 500 white spruce trees. The News A car hit the trailer of the A four vehicle accident occured outside of Schreiber on Thursday, April 26. At approximately 7:20 a.m. Thursday morning a transport truck pulled out from a side road near the Rongie Lake Motel into transport which was horizontal to the highway while pulling out. A second transport hit the cab of the first transport. Another vehicle, a van, hit the second transport's trailer, which brought the number of vehicles damaged up to four. Five injuries resulted from the accident, but all but one were released. Constable Crowder of Schreiber OPP stated."
