Wonderful cruise By Joe Mykietyn When taking any kind of trip one is always apprehensive as to the type of accommodations, food, entertainment, people and places that they are to see. It is even more so when on a cruise, because you can't change hotels. You don't have hundreds of restaurants or nightclubs to choose from and if you don't like sites and people; you can't call a cab or hop a train... You're pretty well stuck and a lot of hard earned money spent on your vacation, may be wasted. So more than ever you need to choose wisely. We spent about 8 weeks researching cruise lines of all sorts. We were looking for a number of points, the first being size, 2nd point was the type of itinerary, 3rd was food and enter- tainment, and 4th was the total cost. The cruise we picked had by no means the biggest ship, it fell into the midsize range. The itinerary was just what we wanted. We sailed from San Juan, Puerto Rico to the islands- St. Thomas, Guadeloupe, Granada, La Guaira/Caracas, Aruba, and back to San Juan, for a total of 1577 miles travelled. In each port of call there were optional shore excursions lasting 2 hours to 8 hours, depending what port you were in. In my opinion, once on board the ship the most important aspect is the food. For this cruise I would give it a 10/10. Every meal was excellent and the vari- ety was unbelievable. Of course the dinner is the main meal and every night portrayed a different country's cuisine. We never once made it to the midnight buffet, although each day when we awakened we stated that, "tonight is the night." The boat had a casino, 2 night clubs, a disco (I hate that word), a piano bar, 4 deck bars, 3 swimming pools, and a casino bar. Each day brought a full range of activities from bingo to limbo contests, trap shooting, pillow fighting, knobby knees contest, wine tasting parties, rum punch, etc. etc... There was some- thing for everyone. We found the ship to be immaculately clean and the crew very professional and courteous from Captain and Cruise Director right on down to Cabin Steward and Bus Boy. The street sweeper can not pick up piles or mounds of sand. Clumps of grass will clog the sweeper's pick- up mechanism. The Public Works Department therefore requests the public to keep the sand as grass free as possible and spread it out on the street.
