Fishing has been excellent this past week. Chuck Hutterli's Chucky's Charters fishing boat guests has the reputation of bringing in the largest fish this season. One of the Eric Samp, son of Rudi and Leslie Samp, Terrace Bay, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lake Superior State' University, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, on May 21, 1989, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Automated Systems Engineering Technology. Eric was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Award for the Automated Systems Engineering Technology Program. He has received a graduate research assis- tanceship from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, where he will be pursuing a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Systems. Attending convocation were his parents from Terrace Bay and his sister, Brigitte, and uncle and aunt, Douglas and Maxine Wright, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. guests aboard hooked a 23 pounder this week, while Ray Kenney's American tourists aboard caught their quota ranging from 14, 12, and 8 pounders. Mr. and Mrs. Park hail from Minneapolis, Minn. and have been regular visitors here for 28 years. Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Brassard attended their son's graduation from St. Patricks High School in Thunder Bay on Friday. May and Piezze. Lemier had his mother, sis- ter and husband and baby of Sherbrooke, Quebec visiting them the past week. Rose Renaud has returned from visiting her mother in Atikokan. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Speers have arrived home after holidaying with relatives in Germany and touring other European countries. Welcome home Briget and Dave. Wendy and Charles Todesco of Hearst visited their grandmother, Anne Todesco. Mrs. Retta Pearson has returned from Winnipegosis after attending the graduation of her granddaughter Colleen Kachur. Douglas of Thunder Bay. Romeo and Kathleen bouchard have left to reside in Nairn, Ontario and to holiday at their summer camp at Dalton, Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Legault of Thunder Bay visited their son Daniel and other relatives here the past week. . The Nick Bains visited rela- tives at the lakehead during the week. Judge Geirge Paradice of Sioux City, Iowa, has arrived for his 39th fishing holiday at Rossport. He is in his 93rd year and a spry old gentleman who wears glasses only for reading and walks daily to his office each working day. He fishes daily in a small boat him- self and does his own cooking and enjoys washing his face and hands in the cold water of Lake Superior in a pool near his dock. Mr. and Mrs. Stefan Barry, May Lemire and Bill-Joe Keeting were business . visitors to Winnipeg, Man. over the week- end. Scribbles the graduation of their son and also visited sister Monica Greengrass in Peterborough. Mrs. Vienna McLellan and Elma Haapa attended the gradua- tion of David Archer in Thunder Bay, the Vienna's grandson. A surprise party was held at the home of Lorraine and Leonard Huard in honor of their 25th anniversary. Friends and relations attended. Also, they were presented with a moncy tree and a beautiful cake. Also, Sandra McLeod from White River, Muriel Shewfelt from Echo Bay and Dale Harton from the Soo attended. Rev. and Mrs. Johnson have returned from their vacation in Saskatchewan. 'School is out so mom can have a rest for a couple of months. Jeff McCanna is home on holi- days from Toronto visiting his parents. Thank You We would like to thank our families for the wonderful bar-b- que, gift and evening on our anniversary. And to the Grandchildren for the lovely flowers. This yearly family get together means so much to both of us especially this year when everybody was home for it. It's wonderful to have such a loving and thoughtful family and we love you all. Dad & Mom Grandpa & Grandma Guess who's birthday was July 9th? Memories An interesting item appeared in the Rossport monthly newspaper -- regarding the Women's Institute Hall. Most of the copy is more or less correct. It was built in 1929 with the Molinski Bros. taking on the contract headed by Joe Molinski the manager. Tt was built in record time with. the lumber purchased from the Molinski Bros. contractors - cut dried and planed when needed. Charles Todesco sold the hard- ware required at wholesale price, such as nails and locks. Glass for the windows, doors etc... were purchased from the Thunder Bay Lumber-Co. as well as the siding. All painting, scrubbing and clean- ing doe by the ladies. With unrest and wars in Europe, the members decided to disband after a year-and-a-half. The group had one ambition and that was to have a community hall in the village. When Mrs. Todesco Remembering the Rossport Hall came to reside in Rossport she was invited to their last meeting. During discussion about dis- banding, she encouraged the ladies themselves to keep on for a few more years and maybe their dreams just might come true. The result was they formed another executive headed by Mrs. Todesco. At the time they had the sum of $33 in the bank. So to work we went finally saving. Collections, donations and enter- tainments managed to gather the sum of $700 and had the hall started and built before winter arrived. We were fortunate to have a promissory note backed by Fred Gerow and had all our debts paid up in three years time. That took in the dirty thirties and hard going. Our first chimney appeared to not like the cement holding the bricks so we tore it down, cleaned Continued on page 6 The Lion's Club Auction was held to raise money for the Lifeline project.
