Wednesday, May 31, 1989 © TERRACE BAY/SCHREIBER NEWS © Page 9 Don't let your dog breed | By Alice Scott A question I am asked time and time again is, "Should I let my female have a litter of pup- pies?" The answer is positively "No." It is nothing but an old wives' tale, that your female will be a better pet if she has a litter. The complications can be enormous and there are enough unwanted dogs in this world. Just recently I received a call about a female, only a pup her- self, who had a litter of unwanted pups. Eight of these puppies were "drowned" by the owner of the dog. This is an extremely inhu- mane method of destroying pups. Vets in Thunder Bay will put a pup to sleep for a slight fee and the puppies do not suffer in the process. One pup from this litter was taken by a person who was will- ing to wake up every two hours for feeding, cleaning the pup, and give him the 24 hour care he needed. He is now seven weeks, healthy and happy, and in a home where he'll always be cared for. He was the lucky one. Remember, have your pet spayed or neutered!!
