The tunnel measures nine feet by nine feet. The purpose of the $1.1 mil- lion project is two-fold: it will stop the erosion of the highway due to the effluent and it will also put an end to the fog and mist created by the effluent on the highway. eet Back to school These Holy Angels students sure seem to be glad to be back at school...maybe there was something wrong with the camera (that would be nothing new). No. the News went to Holv Angels in part of the new Control Order. K-C has lost no time in fulfill- ing this part of the order- this is "one of six major projects that resulted from the control order," said Director . of Industrial Relations Daryl Payette. Right now work is on-going to transfer the route of the mill's effluent from beside Highway 17. The project, according to Payette, is a $1.1 million-one- 't's purpose is to "screen or beautify the effluent channel from the mill to Lake Superior." -- Workers started about one month ago on the project. Joe Marcella is doing the work. Result two-fold The result of the project will be two-fold Payette told the News. Firstly, the work will success- ¢ fully stop the erosion of the high- way due to the effluent; and two, it will reduce the mist and fog on that part of the highway during the winter months caused by the combination of the relatively- warm effluent and the cold air. 775 feet long The major work of the entire _ project is a 775-foot long, nine- foot by nine-foot tunnel on K-C Schreiber and these kids sure seemed content with being back. In total, the new path of the effluent will be about 1,000 feet long. One of six projects Industrial Relations Director Payette told the News that this is only one of six major projects being carried out by Kimberly- Clark. All project-directives were the result of the ministry control order issued to K-C earlier this year. The tunnel project is one of three to be carried out in 1987 and one of six that will occur between now and 1988. Effluent neutralization and improved spills control are the other two projects slated for 1987 said Payette. Air quality control, fresh water re-routing and improved foul con- densate handling are the three projects slated for 1988. Payette said more information will be given on the other five projects in the near future.
