Page 8, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, June 10, 1987 Pink Floyd announce new concert tour By John Futhey Amidst speculation concern- ing an imminent breakup, fuelled mainly by lead singer Roger Waters officially the band and the success of guitarist David Gilmour's solo career, the three remaining members of Pink Floyd delighted their many fans with the announcement of a North American concert tour to promote their next album, which has an August release date. Fans could see the dissolution of the group coming about all too quickly due to the relative inac- tivity of the band (no album since The Final Cut in 1982) and the lack of real studio collaboration among the group's members since Animals in 1977, not to mention no major concert tour 'since then, disregarding The Wall concerts in New York and Los Angeles, which, needless to say, played to huge crowds. Although Waters and Gilmour have played Canada on their own, it has been that long (ten years) since Canadians have seen the group perform. On that tour 80,000 packed Montre- al's Olympic Stadium, setting an attendance record. The band "by which all others' concerts are judged," now minus MOORE'S OF TERRACE BAY Ltd. The first show was sold out in a day, and the second 60,000-plus seats also went quickly. A nagging question remains, however, for the fans that have followed Floyd from the leader- ship of Syd Barrett and his LSD- induced withdrawal from the band in the late 60s through the classic 1975 album Wish You Were Here to Roger Waters' chill- ing obsession with war in the requiem, The Final Cut: how will the band perform without their powerful lead singer? Waters had exemplified all that a songwriter should be in being vivid and reflective, yet passionately angry. A source of musical strength is yet to be truly tapped, however, David Gilmour, who now is to do most of the singing, has shown some of Waters' disturbing emo- tion and powerful lyrics in About Face, as well as in drum- Don't be a fool around the pool Keep electrical devices well away from your pool When you're cooling off in your pool, remember that electricity and water are a lethal combination. Remind family and friends to keep appliances at least 3 metres (10') from the pool. Only heavy duty extension cords with three prong plugs should be used outdoors. It is wise to replace your external outlets with Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI's). Also, don't contact overhead wires when using pool cleaning equipment.
