He and his wife Judi and their four children have taken up residence in Deep River, On- tario. (Special note: Simons was accepted to run his alloted distance with the 1988 Olympic torch as it makes its way through this area to Calgary. Simons said he will definitely be back to carry the flame). Marg Simmer was appointed as Acting Clerk-treasurer and Tax Collector for the township. That was effective on May 30. Also in council At the May 25 council meeting, council resolved to adopt a bylaw to adopt the estimates of revenue and expen- ditures and to set the rates of taxation for the year 1987. The increase in taxes for residential and school board for 1987 will be five per cent. Finance and Corporate Plan- ning Chairman Chris Joubert said that the increase will allow the township to undertake some projects, namely the acquisition of a new grator and a study on a community hall. At the May 25 meeting local resident Ron Lapenskie told council that he was dissatisfied with the results of his request for fencing by the walkway between Terrace Heights Drive and Parkway Place. Town Engineer Doug Baker will look at this problem further. \ It appears that his request for fencing was answered with "tarred poles", as Lapenskie put it. Lapenskie said that a lot of children go through this walkway and he is worried about some_harm coming to them. He fears that there may be an accident if a child on a bike speeds through there and hits his car in his driveway. He also said that children may now be tempted to walk along those tarred poles and may fall. Councillor Joubert suggested putting in tubular pole fencing like at the Post Office: : Council agreed with Lapen- skie that the poles that are there now do not look good. Peter Romanuk, Terrace Bay-Schreiber representative on the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, reported to council that the Schreiber sub-office has moved to the old Schreiber Hotel. Romanuk said that there is now more needed room. Romanuk also told council that the health unit is in need of a speech pathologist. One , has already left he said and a second is planning to. Romanuk said the unit "can't keep people from down east" and there is "no in- terest in coming up here [north]."'
