ry By Winnie Campbell The May general meeting of the Chimo Club was held on the 15th with 30 members present, and the President, Beth Macadam, in the chair. Bits and Bites By Helene Ballard Hello Folks! I hope you all had a nice holi- day weekend. The weather could have been better, but we still have summer, hopefully, to look for- ward to. Our faithful card players were here as usual and enjoyed an after- noon of bridge with the residents- thank-you for coming. We again had our monthly bir- thday party on Thursday, May 21. The hostesses were the ladies from the United Church in Schreiber. Besides a lunch of delicious chocolate cake and coffee, we all enjoyed a penny auction. The 'Birthday Kids' for May were: August Rantz, Nelson Smith., Laurie Jarvi, and Helene Ballard. Mr. Nelson Smith, who was 96 on May 16, told us he was "'Just a kid" yet. He is a wonderful cheerful man and a good example to all of us to keep up our spirits- and be aware of what is going on in the world. On Friday, May 22, it was our Bake Sale- but more about that next week. Our 'resident gardener' Cliff Barker started planting this past week- so let's hope the weather clears up so he can get more vegies planted. With the comming of nice weather, folks are busy cleaning the yards. So let's hope we all remember to use the trash cans for our candy wrappers, etc., and not to throw them around so we can have a nice clean town for visitors. Until next week, this wee 'joke'-. One teenage boy to another: *'I had a long talk with my fatier last night about girls. He doesn't know anything abaout them either." "Au Revoir" Weight watchers spelling success How do you spell success? Many Terrace Bay residents are learning to spell success a new way. They have become part of an enthusiastic Weight Watchers Group which meets every Thurs- day evening at 7 p.m. in the Pentecostal Church, 12 Terrace Court. Members are learning new eating habits, making some behaviour changes, and enjoying losing weight, which are all results of the Quick Start Plus Program. Doreen Scott, area manager, was in town recently and is pleas- ed with the success of the local group. Christine Broughton, who is in charge of the meetings, is begin- ning her third session and'is hap- py with the success of the local group. : She extends an invitation to everyone interested in losing weight to join them. Ministry of Transportation and Communications Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, May 27, 1987, page 7 Winnie Campbell is keeping us informed Resolutions Convener, Georgette Cebrario, read a report on the importance of women in the Church. It was announced that Suzanne Mulligan is our new education con- vener. She wil give the high school bursary and distribute the bibles to the Gr. 8 graduating class. The scriptual rosary will be said Wednesday evenings during the month of May. Moved by Norah McGuire and seconded by Georgette Cebrario that we continue to give newlyweds a complimentary membership. Mary Gentile volunteered to co- ordinate the monthly meeting com- mittees. Call Mary if you would like to take a month in the upcom- ing year. Gloria Harris was the guest speaker at this month's meeting. She is a family resource worker in- volved with the women's crisis centre in Marathon. Her talk was certainly eye open- ing and there were a lot of ques- tion asked by the ladies present. Kay Furyk's group served a lovely -- luncheon. Carmel Zborowski won the centre piece raffle; Norah McGuire guessed the number of nails in the jar and San- dy Larivee-won the Lucky Chair. Next month's meeting will feature a jewelery fair with the pro- ceeds gong to the Scarborough Missions. Plan now to attend.
