The Terrace Bay Police Force's new Bicycle Safety Program got underway last month with four winners. President: Marilyn Chisholm, Ist Vice Pres- ident: Anne Wilkes, 2nd Vice President: Sheila Cassie, Secretary: Geri Strassburger, Treasurer: Irene St. Rose, and Cor- responding Secretary: Pad- dy MacKay. Auditors for 1986 / 87 are: Sheelagh Hamilton and Daphne Monks. Past President Daphne Monks performed the induction for the new officers at the end of the meeting. Our meeting was held on Tuesday, May 13, 1986. Two fundraising events for May and June were report- ed on. Our Trash and Treasure sale on May 10. raised just over $250 and we would like to thank all those who either con- tributed or came and bought. Raffle tickets were also available for sale on the Baby Quilt and Pillow donated by Elise Kenney. This will be drawn on June 14, 1986. After we had finished the business part we has a presentation by Nancy Wilson on the Home Care and Meals-on- Wheels program run by the hospital. Our final meeting for the 1985/86 session will be held on Monday, June 23, 1986 at President Marilyn Chisholm's home, 585 eview Drive, Terrace Bay, at 6:30 p.m. in the evening. The meal will be "pot luck" and we are each asked to bring a favourite dish or dessert. Our business meeting will follow at approximately 8 | p.m. We look forward to seeing you there. We would like to thank all our volunteers who have worked so hard during the past year. Whether in the Gift Shop at the hospital, knitting, sewing, baking, or however you have sup- ported us, we want you to know you are appreciated. Finally, we thank every- one who has helped us with our fundraising efforts dur- ing the year. We have made our target of $12,000 for the EKG machine and this should be installed in the hospital by the end of the year. We have also been able to raise enough to improve the patient's lounge and to buy some furniture for the quiet room. The Terrace Bay Horticultural Society have made arrangements with Creekside Nurseries to bring in ing established safety rules were awarded plaques Police Report Over the past two weeks the Terrace Bay Police Force has investigated three motor vehicle accid- ents, one resulting in a per- son being charged under the Highway Traffic Act, Police also assisted the OPP with two other accid- ents. One plane accident was investigated at the Ter- race Bay Airport involving minor injuries. Police arrested one local male who was lodged in Schreiber cells and charg- ed with being intoxicated in a public place under the Li- quor Licence Act. A report of missing hunters was 'received by police, however hunters returned before further Police action was nec- essary. : A complaint of wilful damage was received from one of the local motels. In- vestigation revealed that the mishap was a result of an accident and the driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failure to report an acc- ident. Police were called out to attend domestic disputes on two seperate occasions assisting in settling the pro- blems with the necessary action, one of which resulted in a male subject being incarcerated over night and the other involv- ed one of the parties seek- ing psychiatric help. Welfare assistance was issued to several people travelling through the township, two as the result of being reported as sus- picious persons. Police also assisted a traveller who had missed the Greyhound Bus in town and required acc- omodation. A local resident was served a notice of the Township By-law regar- ding noise and advised charges would be laid if any further complaints were received regarding noisy parties. Two seperate reports of stolen canoes are still under investigation by police. Police attended at five fires this past two weeks one of which was the ma- jor fire in the new townsite which necessitated evacua- tion of the citizens in that area. A found bicycle has been turned in at the Police Station and another one reported stolen has been recovered. Several parking and driving complaints have been received and ap- propriate action taken. Police were called to assist regarding an injured youth who was taken to McCaus- land Hospital for treat- ment. A complaint was received of nuisance phone calls and the victim was ad- vised of the procedure to be followed should the calls persist. McCausland Hospital staff was assisted regarding a visitor who was giving the nursing staff some pro- blems. A local motorist was warned regarding disobeying crossing guards and all citizens are remind- ed to be cautious in the Crossing Guard zones. Police issued a Highway Traffic Act Ticket to a local motorcycle driver, charging him with im- proper licence. Assistance was given upon request concerning an ambulance call. A concern- ed citizen reported a suspicious vehicle in town which is now under in- vestigation by police. A motorcycle driving through the school grounds was reported and action was taken against the culprit when apprehended.
