Barbara Bill Houston-announced a month ago that he would be running in the race to be Terrace Bay's next reeve. The campaign has been a particularly active one, and earlier last week we asked him why he felt he would make a good Reeve. Bill Houston said "Terrace Bay is a good town to bring up a family in, to work in and to own a home. We have some problems, just as any community does; but we don't have any problems that can't be solved with hard work, careful ad- ministration: and cooperation." '*T want to bring the peo- ple of Terrace Bay together. I have a proven record of getting people to cooperate to solve pro- blems, and I want to use Bill Houston for Reeve that experience for the benefit of the people of Terrace Bay. That means producing solid results and not confrontations or endless talking'. 'In particular, as Reeve I want to work with the Council to put in place a five year capital forecast so that we can plan major ex- penditures on equipment and facilities.'" "We need to maintain the present level of services in recreation, -library, public works and air ser- vice. The people of Ter- race Bay have some good ideas on how to improve these services and I want to take these ideas and act on them." "With careful ad- ministration we will be able to build up an adequate reserve to enable us to meet any emergencies that may arise." '*We need action to im- prove property maintenance and ap- pearance and it is one of the first measures I will put before the new Council."' "Our senior citizens have a right to adequate housing, and a consulting firm will be hired with pro- vincial funds to develop a plan to provide us with the housing we need." '*We also need a new in- itiative to provide incen- tives for our small business people. '*Above all, I want to make sure that our citizens, our employees, and our business people all know what's going on, and are part of our on-going planning." '*Terrace Bay has been a good town for me, for my wife, Prisca, and for our family. I want to work together with our Council, _the town's employees, our business people, and all of the citizens of our com- munity to make Terrace Bay an even better community"'. _ Mike Cosgrove for Reeve Citizens of Schreiber: As a follow-up to my first information letter, let me enlighten you on some of the accomplishments of my last. 3 years as an elected member of your Town Council. |. We purchased property adjacent to the existing Collingwood Court (Senior Citizen's Apartments) so that if and when the need arises for more Seniors Apartments we have the property available. 2. We reserved funds fora Ball Park Development Project. In conjunction with the School Board, the Recreation Committee, and generosity of the existing Ball Park users over two- thirds of the projected total funding has been realized. Hopefully this project will start in early spring of 1986. 3. With the help of the Ministry of Municipal Af- fairs we have started the ball rolling on an Official Plan for the Township. This Plan, when adopted by Council will set guidelines for the *'growth and development of Schreiber". With your help and input at the next two public meetings the Plan will be completed and implemented in 1986. By taking advantage of Government grants we have been able to do this with only half the normal costs. Adoption of the Plan means that more funding will be available from the various Ministries. 4. By participating in the Action 85 programme we have installed a computer system in the Municipal Office that is second to none. It was recently displayed in Ottawa at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. Once again, by taking ad- ME ae ee eee, Se ee OE Government grants the cost was minimal and the time saved in preparation of utility. accounts and tax notices is enormous. All this benefits you, the taxpayer. 5. Falconbridge, as a result of 3 meetings with Coun- cil, has given us their needs for housing and the direc- tion they are going. We have replied with positive proposals to them and are awaiting their reply. I and my fellow councillors have, and will continue to, explore all avenues with a goal of the betterment and future of Schreiber and its citizens. If I am elected as your Reeve I will encourage the business people of Schreiber to form a Chamber of Commerce. The early response to an Economic Development Committee was excellent but the interest has since diminished. I would like to see this group formed and a representative appointed to bring their interests and concerns to Council. In the remaining time before the election I will be going door to door to ask for your support. Should you have any concerns please convey them to me at that time or by phoning 824-2214. In closing let me say I have been working for you - the citizens - for the past 3 years. If elected, I will continue to direct all my energies, knowledge and time to this great communi- ty of ours. Remember I care for the Citizens of Schreiber and I will listen. On November 12 - vote Mike Cosgrove for Reeve. t Schreiber Candidate List REEVE: Boon, Norman Cosgrove, Michael Hiller, William COUNCILLOR: Krause, Bob Huard, Lorraine Borutski, Ed Quinton, Tom Cocks, Kevin E.
