Last winter's work is in print and available in your community. Project Mayday, with funding from Secretary of State, conducted a research study last winter in Marathon, Manitouwadge, Terrace Bay and Schreiber. Each community had a project worker who inter- viewed a cross-section of women to find out about what it was like to live in their community. Newcomers, long-time residents, mothers, grand- mothers, single women, different ethnic and social groups were interviewed. The interviews were con- fidential and coded by the researchers to preserve this confidentiality. The inter- view material was record- ed and became the body of the report. Following the report writing, local May- day groups reviewed the material and chose con- ceims around which women in the community could act ' to improve their lives. These action plans and recommendations are in- cluded at the end of each community section of the Level | and 2 applies to all sports and deals with the theory of coaching, motivation, sportsmanship and dealing with com- petitive children. If you or your group are interested in this program leave your name and phone number and the sport you will be representing at the recrea- tion office. It's just a Job They get called out in the cold night air to fight an element that won't fight fair, it's hard, it hurts, and some may die, it's often hopeless, but still they try. They respond as a team, with sirens blaring each one a man, proud, brave and daring, to save a life, is the ultimate aim, reward enough, they want not fame. A child shouts out, they'll snap into gear that scream's their target, they'll know not fear ' they've got to reach her, through a fire or hell, for.her small life, their souls, they'd sell. This time they've failed, they sat and cried Why Lord? God knows, they tried, their fought that fire, but fought and lost, that small child's life, a dreadful cost. Red eyes at shift's end, in the morning light home to their wives, to hold them tight, they love them, need them, she keeps them sane, but back on nights, they're called out again. DAVID T.
