Hanley edges Gellert for club championship by Paul Malashewski The Aquasabon Golf Club Men's Club Cham- pionship for the Kimberly- Clark Trophy was held on Sunday and Monday, September 1 and 2. A total of 26 golfers competed in this two day tournament. Ken Hanley, the defen- ding champion narrowly edged Kim Gellert by a single shot to retain his title. - Hanley had entered the final 18 holes of play Mon- day trailing Gellert by a single stroke. He pulled even on the front nine, car- ding a 37, while Gellert came in with a 38. The back nine was a see- saw battle with Hanley and Gellert either tied or trading possession of the lead. With two holes to play and both golfers tied again, Gellert's errant tee shot found the bunker. His bogey 4, to Hanley's par 3, gave Hanley the lead with one hole to play. On the 18 hole, Gellert's approach shot to the green, caught the bunker while Hanley was safely on the green, 20 feet from the pin. A great bunker shot by Gellert narrowly missed going in the hole, leaving him only a tap in putt for par. Hanley's always reliable putter got him down in two, giving him the championship. Paul Malashewski faltered on the back nine enabling Tony Costa to gain a tie for third place, a distant 10 shots behind Gellert. In the low net category, for the Red Dog Inn trophy, Mike Reid retain- ed his title. He edged out Bill Miller by a single shot. Three shots behind Miller was Harold Gellert, with Joe Tees just-one shot behind him. With fun- "ding and 40,000 speckled trout eggs supplied by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the club is plan- ning to build up a supply of the fish for local lakes for next spring. Club members will be scheduled to make daily checks on the Hat- chery throughout the winter. According to club officials, since the fish are their responsibility, it will be up to the club to ensure a high success rate during the hatch.
