Winnie came to Schreiber with her parents in 1914 and has been a children, 25 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. She is past president of the Cancer Society, and CWL and the WI of Schreiber. She is an avid Bingo Player and loves to cook. The one or two evenings that the store hours could be extended to 7:30 p.m. or even eight o'clock would give this segment of the working class an oppor- tunity to shop. For the working parents who don't finish until 4:30 or 5 o'clock, and we need a few groceries we don't arrive at the grocery store until near quitting time. T ~ always feel in a panic to get what I need. Sometimes, I feel I'm being shoved out the door because it's near closing time. Extension of hours would certainly be to an advantage for the class of single working parents. It's just not enough for our local grocery store to be open at noon hours. People with disabilities, in particular, face many obstacles in leading what others con- sider to be a normal life. Simple activities like shop- ping can pose insurmoun- table problems when there is no available transporta- tion and the store itself is inaccessible. If you have been grocery shopping on a Saturday morning the number of customers that are in the store is just outrageous. A person stands in the check out line, it seems for an hour. If a customer happens to wander into the store later Saturday afternoon he or she, doesn't have the varie- ty of fresh produce or fresh meat, or dairy products. It is also a great possibility, you won't be able to get what you re- quire because: of the lateness of the hour. There are many tourists travelling in this area year round and an extension of store hours would be of great service to them. In the winter months, it is surprising the number of tourists that come to our great land such as ice fishermen, hunters. If they could find a grocery store open in the evenings, it would be very beneficial. At present, we have a convenience store serving our basic needs of our community and surroun- ding area, but in many cases, that is just not enough. It is a start, and appreciated by all; but there are still groceries we require for day to day liv- ing that are not found in convenience stores. The pharmacy has ex- tended hours for evening customers who are in need of any medical supplies, bug spray, suntan lotion etc. Many residents, especially those who can- not get out through the day are very thankful for these extra evening hours. If the local grocery store would also extend their shopping hours, I feel there would be less hustle and bustle of shopping at the, five o'clock rush hour. This would also remedy the problem of Saturday grocery shopping. In other words, shopping would be less of a chore and the question of when to shop would be more easily solved.
