The purpose of the questionnaire 'is to ob- tain a fast and accurate estimate of the number of bulls and cows har- vested in each Wild- life Management Unit this fall. This. informa- tion will help to deter- mine the number of val- idation tags that will be issued for each WMU in the 1985 moose hunt. All hunters are asked to fill out the card and return it to the MNR as soon as possible. Accur- ate information is very important. For example, if hunters do not report kills, the total harvest would be under-esti- mated. This would re- sult in too many vali- dation tags being issued for 1985, and the herd would decline. This re- duction in the herd may not be detected until the next aerial survey - which usually occurs every three years. At that time much more restrictive measures would be required if we are to double the herd by the year 2000. Some hunters will also receive the longer pro- vincial mail survey form.
