Cheetah main attraction Al Oeming was in Schreiber and Terrace Bay last week with a live Cheetah. He was pro- moting the preserva- tion of endangered spe- cies such as the cheetah and raising funds for that purpose. During the day, Mr. Oeming and Tawana vis- ited the local schools and Birchwood Ter- race. The incredibly do- cile animal was very patient as cameras flashed in his face and people stroked his thick coat. According to young and old alike it was a real thrill. Though the cheetah stole the spotlight, the film that was presented Tuesday night at L.S.H.- S. Terrace Bay was no less incredible. The film was two hours long though it had taken ten years to make. There were no special effects like most films today need in order to hold your attention. It was a portrayal of real life, the daily lives of predatory animals and how they survive. It concerned the survival of the fittest and the incredible will to survive. The most amazing thing was that the film- makers were able to photograph such things as a cougar stalking big horn sheep and a bear chasing wolves away so he could eat their kill. A fascinating creature called the pygmie shrew, the smallest mammal must eat every three hours to survive and does so by eating mice or minnows - and it's all on film. The film is narrated by Al Oeming himself who adds many inter- esting points because he was there. Mr. Oeming signed many autographs that night and explained to people that the cheetah was indeed a descend- ant of the one he had brought to this area years ago. If he comes again, don't miss it! The cheetah was with Al Oeming who presented a two hour Business "Bringing Northern Ontaric together" film on predators.
