The reason for the Open House was to help Seniors who are not residents of the home (as well as © the young)to have a_ better awareness of what senior citizen homes have to of- fer. People were invited to come and have lunch-with some of the Department heads such.as: Tom Gash, Administrator and Mary Ann Sigurdson, Assistant Administrator and Super- visor of Care Services. A Blanche Speck. to Birchwood slide presentation which covered all aspects of the home living was shown. Visitors also went on a tour of the home to see the many different shops that the residents have to work in, such as the Rock Shop, and the Craft Shop. All are bright and airy rooms that the residents have decorated themselves with their own pictures on the walls and throw rugs on the floors. Also ina lot of the rooms the residents have their own furniture. Visitors had a chance to see first hand how and why a Senior Citizen's home is not the last stop of your life. At the October 22 meeting of Terrace Bay Town Council, a letter from Councillor Joe Kennedy was read. The letter stated that Mr. Kennedy was resigning his seat on council on the advice of his physi- cian. Council accepted the resignation with -re- gret. At a special commit- tee meeting held after th tee meeting held after the regular council meeting it was decided -- that the runner-up in the last municipal election would fill the vacant seat. Mr. Peter Roman- uk has served as a town councillor previously. Resigns Since Kimberly-Clark has the authority to grant permission to cut trees on their land, Council will discuss with them the possibility of establishing some kind of control agreement re- garding tree cutting. Councillor Chapman suggested that Terrace Bay should have a 'poop and scoop" by- law. The resolution passed called for the investigation for pos- sible implementation of "'a by-law to require dog owners to collect and dispose of their animal's waste when deposited on public property." The Ministry of Mun- icipal Affairs and Hous- ing, Community Plan- ning Advisory Branch replied to .council's in- quiry on the establish- ment of Site Plan Con- trol under the terms of the township's official plan. Council agreed to pursue the first option set out in the letter, that being to establish a by- law under Section 40 of the Planning Act. The by-law would require a developer to submit their building plans for approval by the Town- ship. George Ramsay re- ported that two verbal responses to the ad re- questing volunteers to form a Board of Direc- tors for the North Shore Family Resource Centre have been received. The budget for the centre has been cut in half in the hope that it will be approved by the Min- istry of Community and Social Services. Money is available to construct Anne Todesco to be _ Honoured Terrace Bay Schreiber News correspondent, Anne Todesco received a letter on the weekend from Premier William Davis in- forming her that she is to be the recipient of a Bicentennial Medal, a replica of which has been presented to her Majesty, the Queen. Mr. Davis stated that during the year of 1984 when the people of Ontario have been celebrating the history, traditions and development of the pro- vince, it is a time to reflect on the efforts and° ac- complishments of the many outstanding citizens who over the years have helped to build our province. Special attention has been given to those caring and compassionate people who have given 'selflessly of their time, energies and talents through volunteer and community services. Anne is very happy to have been chosen to receive one of the medals which will be presented to her early in December. The Building Inspector and the Plumbing Inspector were authorized to at- tend the 'Building To- gether' seminar on Res- idential Renovation and the Plumbing Code to be held in Thunder Bay in November. Council is requesting that section 496(a) of the continued on page 3 Fred Harness to Receive Medal Mr. Fred Harness has received word from William Davis, Premier of Ontario that he is to be presented with a Bicenten- nial Medal from the Pro- vince of Ontario. There are 1984 of these Medals to be presented in Ontario. The medal is-a replica of the one presented to Her Ma- jesty the Queen on her visit to Ontario. Mr. Harness is very pleased to receive this medal. He was previously presented with a Centennial Medal in 1968 from the federal government.
