Rossport Notes Sailboat Must be Moved by Anne Todesco Miss Lorraine Seppala accompanied her mother Mrs. Esther Seppala of Thunder Bay to Toronto on a business trip the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Bain have returned from a holi- day. in Vancouver. Some hunters from the Sarnia area were fortunate to obtain a moose and a deer by bow and arrow recently. Mrs.. The new board members elected were Lester Legault and Gerald Maenpaa. Beverly Legault was rehired as the ' Secretary-treasurer. Other committee chairmen will be appointed at the next meeting. Miss Jane Greer of Nor- thern Affairs, Marathon was present. Lester Legault was elected custodian of the back end hoe which can only be used through the proper procedures of ren- ting same from him. Some people thought they could just help themselves to its use at anytime. The Rossport Water Associa- tion purchased it for Rossport usages. During the summer there-was a pair of geese in our harbour with their 13 goslings. No one ever located their nesting place but they' visited the harbour each day, came up on the lawns for grass and wandered about the sandy beach accepting food from people living along the shore, even from a per- son's hand. They were pets of the villagers. Some may Schreiber Scribbles have flown south but more than likely some went into the roast pan. It was brought to the attention of the meeting that three came back and a couple of young persons from Schreiber shot them from the dock. After much discussion the board decided to write the MNA to pass a by-law for- bidding people to hunt from the docks ... very dangerous, especially with boats in and out or an- chored in the harbour. Another surprise for Rossportites was that the Parks Board was notified to relocate the little red and white sailboat from its pre- sent site at the entrance to Rossport. It drew much at- tention and it gallantly just sat on the rock as if ready to sail off to nowhere. It was sitting on crown land which the park committee spent many hours clearing. After preparing-the loca- tion, the stand was erected atop a rock and rests in a cement base. Patsey Campbell did the painting of the vessel. It cost con- siderable money for all this work. Now it has to be put within the park somewhere. Rossportites hope that it will be located Rossport Geese. in a conspicuous spot as it is a conversation piece. Permission was given to locate it at the entrance of the village. The board even built a breakwater wall on the beach. It was announc- ed that it was dangerous to people crossing the road to admire the little sailboat. No accidents have been. reported yet but committee members are hard at work trying to remove it from the cement bed atop the rock cairn. Business Directory .
