LSBE Chairman Contests Liberal Nomination Michael Reid of Schreiber has announ- ced that he will seek the Liberal Nomination for the Lake Nipigon Pro- vincial Riding. The con- vention is scheduled for Sept. 29, in Red Rock. Mr. Reid was born and raised in the Fort Frances, Atikokan area. He has_ resided in Schreiber for the last 17 years and is employed by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit as a Health Inspector. Cur- rently. the Chairman of the Lake Superior Board of Education, he has been a Trustee for the past 13 years. Mr. Reid is a past President of the Kins- men Club of Schrei- ber, past President and currently vice-President of CUPE Local 1759, and as mentioned a _ long time trustee on the Lake ~ Superior Board of Edu- cation. He has two bro- thers who were Federal and Provincial Mem- bers of Parliament and he has spent the last 16 years actively invol- ved in their election campaigns. Mr. Reid feels that his activities, experi- ence and dedication over the last 20 years make him an excellent candi- date for the Provincial Liberal Party. - Mike Reid Terrace Bay May Get New Fire Truck Prior to the commen- ~ cement of regular busi- ness at the Terrace Bay Town Council meeting September 10, a meet- ing with the Fire Dep- artment and Mr. Gor- don Hughes of King- Seagrove Ltd. was held to discuss the matter of a new fire truck. The film "Bleve" was also shown during this time. Two types of trucks were discussed based on a presentation regard- ing the capabilities of a "'snorkel" truck and a "'telesquirt" truck. More information is re- quired in order for town council to decide if they will purchase one of these trucks. Mr. W. Papineau, Dog Control Officer, re- ported to council that there have been few calls during the sum- mer. His phone num- ber will be published in the local paper to make people aware that he is 'available to deal with dogs who are at large. Council approved a reduction of 1984 taxes "for Mr. R. Williams, Mrs. M. Hamilton. and Mrs. M. Hanley accord- ing to Section 496A of the Municipal Act. Berglund Industrial approval of a proposed routing of a water line to service their new pre- mises. Council approv- ed the construction and connection of a one inch p.v.c. water line to sup- ply the Berglund Indus- trial building site on Mill Rd. as proposed by them. All construction is to be at the owner's expense_and the connec- tion is subject to inspect- ion and approval by the Township. Jack Stokes, MPP, requested endorsement of a resolution pre- sented to the Ontario Legislature by Jim Foulds, MPP, regard- ing OHIP coverage of medically necessary tra- vel costs. The legisla- ture approved of the resolution in principle however. Health Minis- ter Keith Norton did not consider the implement- ation of the resolution to be a priority. Terrace Bay Council resolved to petition the Govern- ment of Ontario to im- plement the OHIP reso- lution. Two councillors have been authorized to at- tend the Crime Preven- tion Seminar sponsor- ed by the Thunder Bay Police Department No- expense of the munici- pality. Council declined to make a donation to the Ontario Municipal Man- agement Development Board. The Municipal Police Authorities requested acceptance or rejection of a proposed member- ship fee increase re- quired to make the or- ganization more effi- cient. Council had no objection to the increase in membership fees to $16.75 per staff member of the Force. The local Girl Guides requested a donation in kind to assist with the hosting of a training session and annual meeting to be held in Terrace Bay involving some 200 visiting dele- gates. The donation was approved. Council will be contri-- buting to the Birchwood Terrace cookbook in the form of an advertise- ment. Proceeds from the book will go to a new bus with a wheelchair lift for the residents. Commerce Northwest was refused a request- ed donation of $100 to $500 to assist in their operations. Two members. of to attend the District 3 Ontario Municipal Elec- trical Association fall conference in Thunder 7 September 23 to The Township will be advertising for the posi- tion of equipment mech- anic for the Public Works Department. Councillor Ramsay ob- jected to the resolution approving the advertise- ment as. he feels that a mechanic is not neces- sary, however the resol- ution was carried. The possibility of creating a separate class of tax assessment for seasonal residences in Terrace Bay in order to reduce the share of ser- vice costs borne by these people will be investi-: gated. The Township of Ter- race Bay will request funding from the Minis- try of Municipal Af- fairs and Housing Act- ion '85 Program for im- plementation of a com- puterized accounting system employing the principles of the Min- istry's Basic Accounting Package (BACPAC).
